Recap by phillip woo
Fiery Patrol was prominent along the rails, stayed to the inside upon straightening and ran down leader Shantaraam close to home for the win. Late-plunged favourite Shantaraam rolled forward to lead entering the first bend, cornered near two lengths on top and grudgingly gave way late. Croatia was patiently ridden at the rear, cornered near the inside and finished to garner a placing 100m out. Cruise Control eased back from the widest gate to settle second from the rear, swung the final bend with one wider out and made some progress late to snatch fourth on the wire. All My Benefit yielded ground inside the 150m after having to work without cover from an awkward gate to eventually sit outside the leader at the 1,200m. Early favourite Hear The Roar was briefly held up three to four deep early straight after travelling behind midfield and only held his ground with clear running over the final 150m. Commandant was never on the course near the speed and was giving way 200m out. Viva Guy was struggling approaching the final bend following a deep run with cover fourth from the rear.
