Amassing 490.35 points, the team captured China’s second diving gold at the Paris Olympics, turning the silver disappointment of three years ago into golden success.

But it was their final dive that really set social media alight, with the pair executing 4½ flawless forward somersaults in just 10 metres, landing gracefully into the pool.

Great Britain, led by diving icon Tom Daley, took the silver after totalling 463.44 points, reversing the results of the Tokyo Games.

“Reclaiming lost ground!” one Weibo user commented. “Congratulations to the Chinese team for winning back the gold medal they missed out on at Tokyo.”
