Judge orders immediate shutdown of Elon Musk’s X in Brazil
The decision is the latest chapter in an ongoing feud between the tech billionaire and a justice at the country’s top court
A block on Elon Musk’s X social network in Brazil took effect early on Saturday after a Supreme Court judge ordered its suspension.
Brazilian Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes on Friday ordered the suspension of the platform following a months-long stand-off with the tech billionaire over disinformation in South America’s largest nation.
The popular social media platform missed a court-imposed deadline on Thursday evening to name a legal representative in Brazil, triggering the suspension.
Musk has argued that Moraes was trying to enforce unjustified censorship, while the judge has insisted that social media needs hate speech regulations.
“They’re shutting down the #1 source of truth in Brazil,” Musk said in a post on X on Friday.
