The success of Ahimsa Buffet’s North Point vegetarian buffet outlet has led to it opening two other similar Hong Kong eateries, in Mong Kok and Jordan

As Asia’s culinary capital, Hong Kong has the best buffet offerings, bar none.

With a wide range of diverse cuisines to choose from, our fair city features a seemingly endless choice of delectable dishes that are sure to loosen up the belt straps and put you in a food coma.

Thanks to the growing vegetarian and vegan awareness, we found some amazing all-you-can-eat buffets for everyone.

For those people who love plenty of selection when it comes to food, check out these six best plant-based buffets.

Ahimsa Buffet 

The first vegetarian buffet offering by Ahimsa Buffet in Hong Kong enjoyed such a huge success after making its 2015 debut in North Point that it has gone on to open two other outlets in Mong Kok and Jordan.

It charges a cash-only weekday flat fee of HK$68 (US$8) for lunch and HK$108 for dinner (prices vary at weekends and on holidays).

Diners have more than 20 dishes to choose from, including both Asian and Western fare.

Basmati 

A spacious Indian/Nepalese restaurant in Sheung Wan, Basmati is known for its great vibe and tasty authentic cuisine.

Its lunch buffet – which costs HK$99 and includes one standard drink – is divided into starters, rice and curries, soups and daal. Be warned: the lunch buffet is a hit so get there early.

Harvester

The vegetarian buffet served from Monday to Saturday at Harvester in Sheung Wan.

With an extensive plant-based spread, Harvester offers and abundance of classic Chinese dishes with complimentary rice, soup, tea and water.

Diners pick as much as they want and then pay by weight at the end of the counter, which costs HK$38 per 100 grammes (3.5 ounces).

Harvester is cash-only, but also accepts Octopus payment.

It is closed on Sundays.

Bijas Vegetarian  

The first vegetarian restaurant located on the University of Hong Kong campus, Bijas Vegetarian is another pay-by-weight model that serves up delicious Chinese vegan and vegetarian fare.

It offers its Mindful Buffet from Monday to Saturday, with lunch from 11.30am to 2.30pm and dinner from 5.30pm to 9pm.

It charges HK$16 per 100 grammes.

My Meat Run Buddy 

The vegetarian buffet served at My Meat Run Buddy in Tai Kok Tsui, Kowloon

A vegetarian gem located in Kowloon, My Meat Run Buddy is a favourite among plant-based locals.

You’ll find a rainbow-coloured selection of dishes such as salads, rice, wraps, mock meats and desserts.

From Monday to Friday, its hour-long lunch buffet costs HK$68, while at weekends and public holiday it costs HK$88.

The dinner buffet gives you a 90-minute window for HK$118, while from Friday to Sunday and public holidays it will set you back HK$148.

Sprout Cafe  

A bright and airy spot in Wan Chai, Sprout Cafe offers a plethora of plant-based eats.

Its buffets feature a large selection of salads, cold tofu, Chinese cuisine and desserts – and even a few mock meat options available.

Its lunch buffet, which runs from 11.30am to 2.30pm, costs HK$78 during weekdays on a 50-minute timestamp, while Saturday and public holidays cost HK$98 for an hour.

The dinner buffet runs from 6pm to 9.30pm and features two cost options – an hour-long buffet from Monday to Thursday for HK$98, or a 90-minute session for HK$138 from Monday to Saturday and public holidays.
