Secret Theatre’s new Art of Dying show in Hong Kong is immersive, high-stakes fun
Secret Theatre’s latest show, Art of Dying, is packed with gangsters, CIA agents and creepy characters running amok in a Hong Kong hotel
The man, wearing a black trench coat, his face obscured by a vintage gas mask, enters the foul-smelling room and slowly makes his way to a rusty sink to wash his hands of what looks like blood. The same substance is smeared on the white-tiled walls.
It is not the sort of scene one would expect at the glamorous Grand Hyatt Hong Kong hotel, in Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island, better known for weddings, black-tie balls and other grand celebrations.
But this is no ordinary event.
On October 24 the hotel hosted the world premiere of Secret Theatre’s Art of Dying, a high-stakes theatrical thriller where guests become part of the action by, in this case, adopting the role of a gangster or a CIA agent.
Without spoiling the plot – it is secret theatre, after all – Art of Dying combines live theatre and audience interaction to transport guests into a cinematic world, all while testing their espionage skills and morals.
