Suede, Jessie J, Corinne Bailey Rae: Macau’s new KoolTai music festival to have ‘omakase’ spirit that helps it stand out from others, organisers say

  • KoolTai is just the injection of energy Macau needs at a time when nightlife is quieter, organisers say of the festival being held on November 11 and 12
  • The line-up of global and Asian acts has been selected based on what organisers think is ‘in-season’ from different styles and genres, like an omakase meal

Next month’s KoolTai music festival in Macau will be a dream come true for Lawrence Che Fok-sang.

Che is the founder and CEO of Chessman Macau, the events company and promoter behind the two-day festival (November 11-12) at the Venetian Macau that about 10 years ago founded another music festival, named Hush!!, which is now run by the Macau government.

“Since then, we’ve wanted to develop a new stage in Macau where overseas and local artists can perform, communicate and have fun together,” he says.

“We want Macau to have its own iconic music event that could become a brand and attract people from around the world.”

The first steps towards KoolTai were taken during the Covid-19 pandemic, when organisers pledged to make the festival happen once borders reopened. They stuck to their promise.
