Ex-Singapore MP Raeesah Khan tells ‘lies non-stop’, Pritam Singh’s lawyer says
Khan admitted to lying repeatedly about a false anecdote involving a rape victim, raising questions about her credibility
Singh, 48, finds himself embroiled in controversy stemming from Khan’s lies to parliament in August 2021 about accompanying a rape victim to a police station.
Now facing charges related to his testimony during hearings held in December 2021, the Workers’ Party secretary general is accused of providing misleading statements about his interactions with Khan, who has since left the party.
On Tuesday, Singh’s lawyer Andre Jumabhoy confronted Khan directly. “You are in fact a liar,” he said, to which Khan replied, “Yes, I’ve lied”.
Jumabhoy pressed further, challenging her integrity, asking: “You tell lies non-stop, don’t you?” Khan denied that this was true.
As the questioning intensified, Jumabhoy meticulously recounted each of Khan’s fabrications surrounding her initial anecdote relating to the rape victim and the subsequent lies she told Singh when he inquired about the victim’s identity. “So it’s a lie heaped upon a lie, and it’s going to be wrapped up in more lies, isn’t it?” he asked.
