Huawei’s Meng Wanzhou back at the helm of firm ahead of next flagship smartphone launch

Huawei Technologies chief financial officer Meng Wanzhou is back at the helm of the company under its rotating chair system, as the Chinese telecommunications equipment giant prepares its next flagship smartphone launch.

Meng, daughter of Huawei founder and chief executive Ren Zhengfei, on Tuesday assumed the position of rotating and acting chairwoman at the company for a six-month tenure ending on March 31 next year, the Shenzhen-based firm said in a statement published on Monday.

This marks the second time that Meng, 52, has taken up Huawei’s top leadership position, in which she heads the firm’s board of directors and its executive committee. Her tenure last year was from April 1 to September 30.

In her latest stint as rotating chairwoman, Meng is expected to oversee the launch this fourth quarter of Huawei’s next flagship 5G handset series, the Mate 70, as well as the continued resurgence of the company’s smartphone business.
