Huawei Cloud reshuffles leadership team as competition mounts in AI boom

The cloud computing unit of Huawei Technologies has adjusted its leadership team, as the Chinese telecommunications equipment giant competes with rivals such as Alibaba Group Holding and Tencent Holdings for a bigger slice of the market amid an artificial intelligence (AI) boom.

Company veteran Zhao Minglu has taken over as legal representative and board chair at Huawei Cloud Computing Technologies, replacing Zhang Pingan and Wang Tao, respectively, according to data from business registry platform Qichacha.

Zhang remains CEO of Huawei Cloud, according to the company’s website, while Zhao continues to serve as legal representative in six other Huawei subsidiaries, including an investment arm and the chip design unit HiSilicon, records showed.

Wang is still chairman of Huawei’s ICT infrastructure managing board.

Other personnel changes on Thursday included the exits of Liu Kang, Bin Yunsong and Wang Yifan from the board, and the addition of Tao Jingwen and Tang Jing as new directors.
