Emma Raducanu and Wu Yibing to ‘add more firepower’ to star-studded MGM Macau Tennis Masters
- US open winner and rising Chinese star added to list that already includes Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic
- Organisers highlight potential for sports tourism with event that also includes ATP Tour pair Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafore
US Open winner Emma Raducanu and rising Chinese talent Wu Yibing have been added to the star-studded line-up for the MGM Macau Tennis Masters in December.
Organisers had previously announced that Olympic gold medallist Belinda Bencic, and top 10 ATP Tour duo Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafore, would be playing in the invitational tournament at the city’s East Asian Games Dome.
There is a spot for one more man, with the event’s format consisting of two men’s singles matches and one mixed doubles on Saturday, followed by a women’s singles match and two men’s singles matches on Sunday.
Luiz Carvalho, a senior vice-president at sports group IMG, which is involved in running the tournament, said Raducanu and Yu would “add more firepower” to two days of “high-level sports entertainment”.
“There will be an even greater connection to the local community,” Carvalho said. “Emma’s [Raducanu] Chinese roots and her remarkable rise to stardom by winning the US Open have made her a global sensation, while Wu Yibing’s historic feat as the first Chinese national to win an ATP tournament has significantly elevated his standing in world tennis.”
The tournament will take place on December 2 and 3, and Hubert Wang, president and COO of MGM, said organisers hoped to attract fans from around the world, promote the city and “maximise it’s potential for sports tourism”.
