Samurai RFC Warriors add ex-Springbok Victor Matfield to squad for HKFC 1Os

  • Plenty of familiar faces returning to city for Hong Kong Football Club’s flagship event
  • Event, which takes place 2 days before the Hong Kong Sevens, has long attracted some of the game’s best

Samurai RFC Warriors have laid down a marker for this month’s HKFC 10s tournament, adding ex-Springbok Victor Matfield to a team hoping to better its runners-up spot from 2019.

With former England international Nick Easter and Irish star Kevin Maggs among the coaches, the Warriors will be one of the favourites for the event at Hong Kong Football Club.

A competitive men’s field boasts the return of some well-known invitational sides, including Tradition YCAC from Japan, A-Trade Overseas Old Boys and the East Africa RFC, and some familiar faces.

Former Hong Kong head coach Dai Rees returns to the city with Welsh touring side bowers.law Crawshays, who are celebrating their centenary year. New additions to the tournament include Paris-based Natixis Seventise and London’s Ashbury Tropics.

Of the local sides, the hosts will fancy their chances alongside tournament veterans, Scottish Exiles and Sandy Bay.

The 2023 Tradition HKFC 10s marks the 35th playing of Football Club’s flagship event, which is considered to be among the top invitational rugby 10s tournaments in the world.
