While Hong Kong Football Club’s 11-point lead at the top suggests at least one place is decided, the other five clubs are separated by the same amount in a season where unexpected results seem to be the norm rather than the exception.

Not even Football Club have been immune, having lost to second-placed side Kowloon, while Valley RFC, who have made a habit of accumulating grand titles, lost to HKU Sandy Bay last week.

That win has kept Sandy Bay in touch with the top-four, and their clash with Kowloon at King’s Park on Saturday is shaping up to be an important one for both sides.

For Kowloon, the game will be about regaining some momentum after their 40-15 defeat to bottom-club HK Scottish last time out, although a run of injuries has made consistency hard to come by.

“It’s a difficult one on how you handle it,” Joe Barker, the Kowloon player-coach, said. “There are boys that are getting the opportunity to play, so you want to get some momentum, you want them to show us what they’ve got.
