- The Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens draws to a conclusion on Sunday as we move into the semis and finals
- This year’s three-day rugby extravaganza is expected to be the last at Hong Kong Stadium before it moves to its new home at Kai Tak Sports Park
The third day of 2024’s Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens takes place on Sunday, as the knockout stages reach a climax with the Cup final and the lower-tier Melrose Claymore titles are decided.
It is also supposed to be the last hurrah for Hong Kong Stadium as the tournament prepares to leave this site after 42 years.
Here is everything you need to know.
Hong Kong Sevens schedule
Fans are allowed in from 8am on Sunday. After some junior rugby, the adult matches begin at 9.40am.
First up are two Melrose Claymore fixtures. China and Thailand meet in that first match to determine who will join Hong Kong in the women’s final, then Hong Kong’s men will rely on Japan to beat China, starting at 10.03am, to confirm they too will contest a final.
Those Melrose finals are at 3.28pm (women) and 3.56pm (men).
Before that, in the main Cup competition, the expected women’s finalists New Zealand and Australia instead meet in the semis at 1.17pm. That is mouth-watering.
The same two meet in a hard-to-call men’s semi at 2.06pm, just after the Ireland-France semi at 1.40pm.
