Joao Moreira is the current reigning champion jockey in Hong Kong. Originally from Brazil, he relocated to Hong Kong in October 2013 after a successful career in Singapore, smashing record after record. Nicknamed the 'Magic Man', he made an immediate impact in his first Hong Kong season, finishing second in the jockeys' championship with 97 winners despite a belated start to the term and a number of suspensions. In 2014-15, he set a new record for winners in a season with 145. He has formed partnerships with some of Hong Kong's top horses, labelling Able Friend the best horse he has ever ridden, while he has also found success with Designs On Rome, Amber Sky and Sterling City.
