Derek Leung is a product of Hong Kong's Apprentice Jockeys' School, learning his craft in New Zealand before returning to Sha Tin. He received the 2016/17 Tony Cruz Award as the leading home-grown rider (25 wins), despite twice being side-lined with injuries during the campaign.
