Chris So joined the Jockey Club as a work rider in 1997 and was assistant trainer to Caspar Fownes from 2003 until receiving his own trainers' licence ahead of the 2013/14 season. He had his best season to date in 2016/17 with 56 wins, placing him fourth in the trainers' championship.
