The Champions Mile is the premier 1,600m feature of the Hong Kong spring, run in early May. First run in 2001 to complement the Audemars Piguet QE II Cup, winners have included Electronic Unicorn (2003), Bullish Luck (2005, 2006), Good Ba Ba (2008) and Xtension (2011, 2012). Most notably, it was the race where Silent Witness tasted defeat for the first time in 18 starts when he was defeated by stablemate Bullish Luck in 2005. The win of South Africa's Variety Club in 2014 was the first international triumph in the race, while the world's leading miler Able Friend took the race in 2015.
