The sensationally backed Dragon Joy was given a peach of a ride by Matthew Poon Ming-fai, with the jockey quickly finding the fence towards the rear from gate 14 before launching him late down the outside to win. Markwin was denied late after poking his head in front 50m out following a one-off trip from behind midfield. It was another fine effort. Fast Network kept on well for third after briefly hitting the front 150m out following a prominent run one off the fence from gate three. It was a good effort. Specked late, Sky Heart wouldn't go down without a fight after dictating the run from gate six. He should come on for this run following a 238-day break following a fetlock injury and colic. Silver Breeze just missed the frame with his late bid following a patient ride second last from gate 11. He's run on well for fifths in back-to-back 1,600m runs. Mickley ran on without threatening after biding his time three from the rear from gate eight. He couldn't overcome the top weight. Beauty Viva was on his tippy toes 100m out after going forward three deep to eventually sit outside the leader Sky Heart from gate 10.

Race Nine : (345) - PAK SHEK AU HANDICAP - Class 3R - 1600Meters

Horse No 1 MICKLEY (K082) H Bowman Jumped only fairly.

Near the 900 Metres, when racing keenly, shifted out when being steadied away from TOP GUN, made contact with SILVERY BREEZE and became unbalanced.

Horse No 3 TOP GUN (J249) M Chadwick Slow to begin.

Near the 900 Metres, when racing keenly, was steadied to avoid FAST NETWORK.

Near the 450 Metres raced tight between FAST NETWORK and MARKWIN which shifted out.

Crowded near the 200 Metres.

Again crowded near the 100 Metres.

Horse No 4 HELENE WARRIOR (J207) B Avdulla A Pouchin (KING MILES) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in, taking TOP GUN in onto HELENE WARRIOR, resulting in HELENE WARRIOR losing its running and being checked.

A Pouchin was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 5 February 2025 at Happy Valley.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very good race riding record.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 5 STEPS AHEAD (J263) C L Chau Near the 200 Metres was checked when crowded between TOP GUN which was taken out by HELENE WARRIOR when that runner shifted out and away from MARKWIN whilst giving ground and KING MILES (A Pouchin) which shifted in slightly.

A Pouchin was advised to exercise more care.

Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 6 MARKWIN (J420) K C Leung Near the 900 Metres commenced to race keenly and was steadied away from STORM RIDER.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 KING MILES (J158) A Pouchin A Pouchin pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 100 Metres (see HELENE WARRIOR).

Horse No 8 SILVERY BREEZE (K057) K Teetan Bumped near the 900 Metres.

Horse No 10 FORTUNATE SON (J446) L Hewitson Jumped awkwardly.

Over the final 100 Metres was held up for clear running and could not be ridden out to the finish of the event.

Horse No 12 BEAUTY VIVA (K155) A Atzeni After the event, A Atzeni reported that from a wide barrier he was instructed to take up a forward position.

Trainer P C Ng confirmed the instructions issued.

Horse No 13 MIDORI GIANT (K095) A Badel Slow to begin.

Over the concluding stages had difficulty obtaining clear running and could not be fully ridden out to the finish of the event.
