Race Eight : (314) - THE CHINESE CLUB CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class G3 - 1400Meters
Horse No 1 CALIFORNIA SPANGLE (E314) B Avdulla After the event, B Avdulla stated that his mount was unsuited when crossed by DROMBEG BANNER in the early stages when that runner showed superior pace.
He said, in his opinion, CALIFORNIA SPANGLE races best on firm surfaces.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 2 BEAUTY JOY (E058) H Bowman Near the 250 Metres was checked when it improved behind CALIFORNIA SPANGLE as that runner was giving ground.
Over the final 100 Metres could not be ridden out to the finish when positioned behind RED LION.
Horse No 3 RED LION (H115) Z Purton A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 4 TAJ DRAGON (H164) C Y Ho After the 700 Metres commenced to race keenly and was steadied when awkwardly placed between HEALTHY HAPPY and GREEN N WHITE.
Horse No 5 HEALTHY HAPPY (D435) M Chadwick Jumped awkwardly.
Horse No 6 PATCH OF THETA (H485) K Teetan Bumped at the start.
For some distance after the 900 Metres raced keenly and was steadied to avoid CALIFORNIA SPANGLE.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 7 DROMBEG BANNER (H117) A Atzeni Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 10 TOMODACHI KOKOROE (H303) L Hewitson Bumped a rail on the way to the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.
Jumped awkwardly.
Horse No 11 FANTASTIC TREASURE (E269) M L Yeung Jumped only fairly and then shortly after the start was crowded by CALIFORNIA SPANGLE which shifted in.

Patch Of Theta settled prominently and overhauled long-time leader Drombeg Banner 120m for a sixth win and first at group level from 14 starts. Drombeg Banner just held on for second after setting slick fractions from gate 11 under a light weight. He's not easy to run down when left alone in front. Green N White ran on nicely to just miss second after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He continues to add to his strong 1,400m form despite a rise in class. Chiu Chow Spirit ran on nicely for fourth after making his run two from the rear. It was another honest performance. Red Lion ran on all right for fifth after a one-off trip from midfield. He's naturally returning to form on his four starts this term. Taj Dragon ran on without threatening travelling three from the rear. He's not the same horse this season. Beauty Joy got going late when finally gaining a run on the back of the tiring California Spangle. He had an excuse. Tomodachi Kokoroe wasn't good enough after punching the breeze sitting third in the run.
