Recap by phillip woo

Early favourite Divano settled one-off in midfield and responded nicely to get up 60m out for a third win over the Sha Tin 1,200m from seven starts. He was able to show his true colours after a troubled effort last start. King Profit stayed on nicely to grab second in the dying stages at massive odds following a prominent run with cover from a wide draw. It was a vastly improved effort. Young Superstar set a strong pace and held on for third after skipping nearly three lengths clear 200m out. It was a solid effort from gate 14 carrying more weight following a win. Champion Instinct ran on steadily for fourth after a rails run from better than midfield. It was better effort at his second start this campaign. Patch of Cosmo ran on late for fifth after making his run two from the rear. He's run with merit in back-to-back runs following a rise in class. Swagger Bro came from towards the rear for sixth. It was a pleasing debut effort in Hong Kong. Lifeline Express ran on without threatening settling fifth last and three wide in the run from gate six.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (242) - LORD KANALOA HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 SAVVY BRILLIANT (J437) Z Purton On jumping got its head up, became unbalanced and lost ground.

A warning was placed on the barrier manners of SAVVY BRILLIANT.

After the event, Z Purton stated that after settling back in the field SAVVY BRILLIANT did not finish the race off in the Home Straight and raced in a disappointing manner.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Trainer F C Lor stated that SAVVY BRILLIANT was disadvantaged by losing ground at the start but he attributed today's performance to the horse having to make up too much ground in the Home Straight and that it was reported to have a substantial amount of blood in its trachea.

The performance of SAVVY BRILLIANT was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts.

Before being allowed to race again, SAVVY BRILLIANT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 WONDERSTAR (J531) K Teetan After being crossed by YOUNG SUPERSTAR near the 900 Metres then commenced to race keenly and was steadied away from the heels of YOUNG SUPERSTAR when its rider Y L Chung steadied the pace.

Y L Chung was advised to exercise more care and reminded of his obligation to be sufficiently clear when shifting ground and not to steady the pace too quickly.

Horse No 4 DIVANO (J142) J McDonald Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 EIGHTY LIGHT YEARS (H170) P N Wong Noted to have blood at the mouth on arrival at the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

Near the 250 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between WONDERSTAR which was giving ground and CHAMPION INSTINCT which shifted in slightly.

After the event, Apprentice P N Wong stated that the instructions were to attempt to lead the event.

She said EIGHTY LIGHT YEARS was a little fractious in the barriers, jumped only fairly and despite being ridden along in the early stages did not show sufficient pace to lead as instructed.

Horse No 6 HALO OF SUCCESS (K133) A Atzeni Jumped only fairly.

After the event, A Atzeni stated that his mount, which was having its first race start in Hong Kong, raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event and raced keenly.

He said as a result HALO OF SUCCESS did not finish the race off in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 NOT USUAL STAR (G396) K De Melo Bumped at the start.
