Recap by phillip woo

Fatal Blow sat outside the leader, drove to the front 60m out and just held off the favourite The Perfect Match for the win. The Perfect Match ran home a close second after coming off the winner's heels 100m out following a rails run from behind midfield. He's a winner waiting to happen. Northern Fire Ball wouldn't go down without a fight after clearing to lead 750m out from gate 11. He has been unlucky at the barrier draw in his four career runs. Gimme Five ran on well for fourth after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He can bob up at any moment after filling the frame in three of his four Valley 1,200m runs this term. Zetta Force made a good impression late near the inside for fifth after biding his time two from the rear. It was a promising debut performance. Sweet Diamond had his chance after settling in the box seat from gate five. Happy Day ran on without threatening from second last from gate 12. Universal Blaze just plodded when asked for an effort after a rails run from midfield. Glory Cloud never landed a blow from the back after a tardy start. It was a disappointing effort.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five : (216) - THE ST ANDREW'S CHALLENGE QUAICH (HANDICAP) - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 HAPPY DAY (G119) B Avdulla From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Approaching the 100 Metres was momentarily crowded between GIMME FIVE and VIGOR ELLEEGANT which was taken out slightly by THE PERFECT MATCH.

Horse No 2 THE PERFECT MATCH (J253) J McDonald Approaching the 250 Meres was shifted to the inside of VIGOR ELLEEGANT to continue into clear running.

Approaching the 150 Metres then had some difficulty obtaining clear running when being directed to the outside of FATAL BLOW.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on THE PERFECT MATCH at the request of Trainer C S Shum.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, THE PERFECT MATCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 METRO WARRIOR (D387) E C W Wong Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 GLORY CLOUD (H320) H Bowman When questioned, H Bowman stated that although his instructions were to ride his mount conservatively in the early stages, GLORY CLOUD was slow to begin and as a result settled at the tail of the field.

He said with the early pace of the event being run inside of standard time GLORY CLOUD did not travel well and he was obliged to encourage his mount to maintain its position in the middle stages.

He added after shifting GLORY CLOUD to the outside of HAPPY DAY near the 400 Metres, GLORY CLOUD finished the race off only fairly.

Trainer C Fownes confirmed the instructions issued.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
