Recap by phillip woo

Standby starter Spicy Spangle led and never looked back after straightening three lengths on top for a first win at his ninth start. The writing had been on the wall after placing in two of four other runs this term. Outsider I Am The Boss surged late to grab second after a one-out, one-back run. It was clearly his best run. Flying Double kept on one-paced for a placing after stalking the pace. He's still looked inexperienced in the run but has given a decent sight in both starts. Debutant Newborn Miracle ran on well for fourth without threatening the top three after a one-off trip behind midfield. It was a pleasing effort in a race run to suit those up front. Circuit Victory made some ground late for fifth after turning the final bend four from the rear. He does appear from his four starts to be heading in the right direction this season.

Racing Incident Report

Race One : (182) - BOCHK CROSS-BORDER SERVICES HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 BLAZING WIND (J157) J McDonald When questioned, J McDonald stated that the intention was to hold a more forward position but on jumping BLAZING WIND made contact with the right side of its barrier.

He said in the early stages when SKY VINO held its position three wide and he was to that runner's outside, he elected to come back and follow SKY VINO to avoid racing wide which resulted in his mount settling further back.

He said after shifting to the outside of SKY VINO on straightening, BLAZING WIND responded only fairly to his riding and, in his opinion, raced in a disappointing manner.

Trainer C S Shum stated that the only explanation he could offer for the performance was that BLAZING WIND was unsuited by settling further back in the field than he had anticipated.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of BLAZING WIND was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts.

Before being allowed to race again, BLAZING WIND will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 I AM THE BOSS (H446) H T Mo After the event, H T Mo reported that he was instructed to hold an on-pace position.

Trainer K W Lui confirmed the instructions and said he issued such instructions due to a number of first starters being engaged in the event and to avoid having to race inside or behind those runners.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 SPICY SPANGLE (J087) P N Wong Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 FLYING DOUBLE (J388) Z Purton In the Home Straight raced greenly and proved difficult to ride out.

Horse No 6 LOADED WITH FLUKE (K069) H Bentley Jumped only fairly and then was crowded between SKY VINO and NEWBORN MIRACLE, both of which shifted ground.

Horse No 7 LUCKY IMPACT (J337) A Atzeni After the event, A Atzeni reported that his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event and was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight, particularly when LUCKY IMPACT had not raced since 15 September 2024.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 9 NEWBORN MIRACLE (J477) C L Chau Bumped shortly after the start.

Horse No 10 SKY VINO (K054) H Bowman Bumped shortly after the start.

Horse No 14 GALLANT CROWN (D359) L Hewitson Trainer D A Hayes confirmed that from the outside barrier he instructed L Hewitson to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages.
