Recap by phillip woo

Second favourite Happy Daily settled one off behind midfield and took control 150m out for a fifth win and first over the Valley 1,650m at his 50th start. He was a well-rated runner and fitter for two positive runs at Sha Tin. Lucky Banner gamely held on for second after getting his own way in front from gate fourth. It was clearly his best run from six goes over the Valley 1,650m, but he had been knocking on the door in three prior runs on the dirt. Super Baby held onto a minor placing after sitting third with cover. He is close to a win after giving a decent sight in his past three of four starts this term. Smart City ran on well for fourth after biding his time three from the rear. It was his best effort from six local starts. Well-backed On The Lash ran on steadily to just miss fourth prize money after a rails run from behind midfield. He has improved following a move to a tongue tie in his past two of four outings. Favourite Hakka Radiance just plodded after settling a distant fourth along the inside. He's a dirt horse. Youth Power stayed on without threatening after getting posted wide towards the rear from gate nine.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (178) - LUNG CHEUNG HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 MASSIVE ACTION (E445) K C Leung In the Home Straight lay in and proved difficult to ride out.

Horse No 2 SMART CITY (J213) M F Poon Making the first turn near the 1300 Metres commenced to race keenly and shifted out when being steadied away from HAPPY DAILY.

SMART CITY then continued to race keenly for some distance thereafter.

Horse No 3 HAPPY AGAIN (J117) M Chadwick Near the 200 Metres was momentarily crowded for room between ON THE LASH and YOUTH POWER which shifted in before being corrected by its rider.

Horse No 4 HAPPY DAILY (E294) C Y Ho Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping.

Was noted to have sustained a minor laceration to the left front leg after the race.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 THUNDERBOLTAURUS B (J281) B Thompson Jumped only fairly, shifted in and made contact with the hindquarters of HAPPY DAILY.

Horse No 6 HAKKA RADIANCE (J105) Z Purton Shortly after the start was crowded between ON THE LASH and LUCKY BANNER, both of which shifted ground.

Making the Home Turn near the 350 Metres improved into a narrow run to the inside of MASSIVE ACTION (K C Leung) as that runner attempted to improve to the outside of LUCKY BANNER.

When MASSIVE ACTION then lay in, HAKKA RADIANCE was checked to avoid MASSIVE ACTION.

Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that HAKKA RADIANCE was endeavouring to improve into a tight run and Jockey Leung had made some effort to correct his mount, he was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

When questioned regarding his riding out over the concluding stages, Z Purton stated that after improving behind LUCKY BANNER when that runner shifted in towards the rail, he became positioned close to its heels and as a consequence was unable to test his mount over the concluding stages.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 LUCKY BANNER (G354) E C W Wong Jumped awkwardly and shifted in.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 SUPER BABY (G364) L Ferraris After the 250 Metres was taken in slightly by HAPPY DAILY which shifted in.

Horse No 9 DARCI JOY (E161) A Atzeni Jumped awkwardly and lost ground and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 10 ON THE LASH (J182) L Hewitson Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and was bumped.

Horse No 11 SKYEY BLUE (J212) Y L Chung In the early stages raced keenly when being shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

Horse No 12 YOUTH POWER (H358) M L Yeung Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
