Recap by phillip woo

Giant Leap kept finding after claiming the lead 300m out for a second win from three starts over the Valley 1,200m. Favourite Yee Cheong Spirit found one too good after settling in the box seat from gate one. He's a winner waiting to happen with placings in each of his three starts this term. Prime Mortar made it close for second after a oneout, one-back run. it was an improved effort second up over his favourite Valley 1,200m. Punted late, Gallant Valour ran on near the inside for fourth from towards the rear. It was a good effort in a race run to suit those up front carrying top weight following a last start win. Excellent Peers made a nice bid to just miss the frame after settling one off the rail behind midfield. He is well rated. Tactical Command ran on without threatening after getting caught wide with cover travelling behind midfield from gate 11. He didn't get a race run to suit. Joy Coming kept on one-paced from midfield. He's struggling to recapture his best form in four outings this term. From gate 12, Lyrical Motion faded after a wide trip without cover in better than midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (162) - TAI TAM HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 GALLANT VALOUR (H323) H Bowman Jumped only fairly, then shifted in and bumped with PRIME MORTAR.

Horse No 2 PRIME MORTAR (G328) Y L Chung Bumped at the start.

Horse No 3 EXCELLENT PEERS (G033) M Chadwick Between the 250 Metres and the 200 Metres was held up for clear running when endeavouring to obtain a narrow run between PRIME MORTAR and JOY COMING and as a result made contact with JOY COMING.

Horse No 4 LYRICAL MOTION (G081) E C W Wong When questioned, Apprentice E C W Wong stated that his instructions were to endeavour to find cover from the outside barrier.

He said as a result in the early stages he did not ride his mount along in an attempt to comply with his instructions.

He said entering the Back Straight he had anticipated JOY COMING would shift to the rail, but when that did not occur, LYRICAL MOTION was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

When questioned if there was an opportunity to allow LYRICAL MOTION to stride forward to prevent JOY COMING from shifting out near the 600 Metres, Apprentice Wong stated that his focus has been on endeavouring to obtain cover and as a result he did not position his mount in a more forward position at that point which had allowed JOY COMING to take LYRICAL MOTION out.

He agreed with the Stewards in retrospect he should have placed LYRICAL MOTION in a more competitive position at that stage of the event to prevent JOY COMING from shifting out.

Trainer C Fownes confirmed the instructions issued and in the circumstances expressed satisfaction with the manner in which Apprentice Wong had ridden LYRICAL MOTION.

From the 600 Metres raced very wide and without cover.

Horse No 5 GIANT LEAP (J143) A Atzeni Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 JOY COMING (H149) L Hewitson Bumped near the 200 Metres when racing tight to the outside of EXCELLENT PEERS.

Horse No 8 YEE CHEONG SPIRIT (H379) C Y Ho Held up for clear running making the Home Turn.

Near the 150 Metres was taken in by GIANT LEAP.

Horse No 10 FOOLISH HEART (J054) K C Leung Jumped only fairly, shifted out and bumped GANGNAM STAR.

Horse No 11 TACTICAL COMMAND (H197) A Badel After the event, A Badel reported that his mount raced in a three wide position with cover but in the Home Straight finished the race off only fairly.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 GANGNAM STAR (H326) K Teetan Jumped only fairly and was then crowded between TACTICAL COMMAND and FOOLISH HEART.

K Teetan was warned in relation to using his whip on a horse that was out of contention and not responding to his riding.

After the event, K Teetan reported that his mount, which was having its first race start at Happy Valley, did not appreciate racing on the Happy Valley track.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
