Recap by phillip woo

Early favourite Sturdy Ruby took settled midfield on the rails and took control 60m out to record a first win after placing eight times from 16 other starts. Viva Graciousness kept on well for second after working forward from a tricky gate to track the leader near the 1,200m. It was his best performance from 13 local starts. The Azure ran on well for third after a one-off trip from behind midfield. He relished a return to the course and distance of a fourth in July. Tradition ran on well for fourth after saving ground behind midfield. It was a better effort second up this term following a stable transfer. United Endeavours just plodded after a one-out, one-back run. Courier Magic ran on without threatening down the outside after biding his time two from the rear as the post time favourite. Gallant Crown was on his tippy toes 100m out despite getting his own way in front after easily finding the lead from gate nine. He seems to prefer Sha Tin this season. Capital Legend only plodded when asked for an effort.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (131) - FOSHAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 VIVA CHALEUR (G368) A Atzeni From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After the event, A Atzeni confirmed that from the outside barrier he was instructed to ride his mount conservatively in the early stages.

Trainer P C Ng confirmed the instructions and said such instructions were issued as VIVA CHALEUR had raced below expectation when being ridden in a more forward position at its previous race starts.

Horse No 2 CAPITAL LEGEND (G333) H Bowman Over the concluding stages could not be ridden out when positioned close to UNITED ENDEAVORS as that runner shifted out slightly.

After the event, H Bowman advised that he was obliged to make a wide run on the Home Turn and in the Home Straight CAPITAL LEGEND finished the race off fairly, but he was not too disappointed with the horse's performance.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 I AM THE BOSS (H446) L Hewitson From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 4 VIVA GRACIOUSNESS (J079) M Chadwick After the event, M Chadwick stated that as connections had not expected there would be strong pace in the race, he was given the option to take up a more forward position, particularly as VIVA GRACIOUSNESS is generally one-paced when placed under pressure.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 BRAVE WITNESS (H425) C L Chau As the start was effected lunged forward and made contact with the front of the starting gates whilst being assisted by a starting gate handler.

As a result, BRAVE WITNESS lost considerable ground at the start.

As the Stewards were satisfied that such incident had occurred simultaneously to the start being effected, BRAVE WITNESS was declared a runner.

Before being allowed to race again, BRAVE WITNESS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.

From the 800 Metres improved forward and raced wide and without cover thereafter before giving ground in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a small wound to its left hind leg.

Horse No 6 STAR LINE (J110) M F Poon After the 200 Metres was shifted to the inside of GALLANT CROWN to attempt to obtain clear running and near the 150 Metres was disappointed and shifted to the outside of GALLANT CROWN to continue into clear running.

Over the concluding stages STAR LINE could not be ridden out when positioned close to VIVA CHALEUR.

Horse No 7 STURDY RUBY (H207) C Y Ho Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 COURIER MAGIC (H290) Z Purton Was fractious whilst being transported to the course, examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

Near the 900 Metres COURIER MAGIC and I AM THE BOSS contested a position behind BRAVE WITNESS when that runner commenced a forward move three wide.

When I AM THE BOSS (L Hewitson) maintained its position behind and slightly to the outside of BRAVE WITNESS, COURIER MAGIC was then checked when disappointed for this position.

In taking no action, the Stewards were satisfied that Jockey Hewitson had ridden his mount in accordance with the Rules and that COURIER MAGIC had not fully established the run behind BRAVE WITNESS.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 THE AZURE (J227) K C Leung Jumped only fairly.

Held up on the Home Turn before shifting to the inside of STURDY RUBY to obtain clear running.
