Racing Incident Report
Race Nine : (73) - SHANGHAI HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 HASTEN DELIGHT (J229) C Y Ho Noted to have blood at its mouth on arrival at the Start, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.
Crowded shortly after the start.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.
Horse No 2 EIGHTY LIGHT YEARS (H170) C L Chau Crowded shortly after the start.
Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 4 GRACIOUS EXPRESS (J188) B Avdulla Approaching the 1100 Metres was momentarily crowded.
When questioned, B Avdulla stated that after following MOTOMAN into the Home Straight he was positioned to the inside of HARMONY FIRE and as a result his mount was held up for clear running between the 400 Metres and passing the 300 Metres where he was able to shift to the outside of HARMONY FIRE to secure clear running.
Horse No 5 STELLAR EXPRESS (J186) H Bowman After the event, H Bowman stated that his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event and as a consequence was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 6 GLORY ELITE (H311) K C Leung Bumped shortly after the start.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 7 PACKING POWER (J284) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 9 MY WISH (J256) L Hewitson Jumped awkwardly.
Approaching the 1100 Metres was ridden forward in an attempt to cross GRACIOUS EXPRESS, but when unable do so, MY WISH, which was racing ungenerously, then became awkwardly placed on the heels of STELLAR EXPRESS (H Bowman) which shifted in, resulting in MY WISH being steadied to avoid that runner's heels.
H Bowman was advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
Then over-raced throughout the early and middle stages of the event.
Horse No 10 MOTOMAN (J436) P N Wong In the early stages was ridden along to hold its position to the inside of HARMONY FIRE and as a result MOTOMAN raced tight to the inside of that runner for some distance approaching the 1000 Metres.
After establishing its position to the inside of HARMONY FIRE, MOTOMAN then raced keenly throughout the middle stages of the event, got its head up and refused to settle.
Apprentice Wong's riding in the early stages was referred to the Chief Riding Instructor for remedial training.

Following a pace-stalking run from a wide gate, favourite Packing Power was too good after claiming the lead from Glory Elite 200m out to remain perfect in three starts despite a rise in class and shift to Sha Tin. Glory Elite kept on gamely for second after clearing to the lead from gate nine. He is a winner waiting to happen after giving a good sight for seconds in both starts this term. Sensationally backed, My Wish dashed well to make it close for second after making his run two from the rear. He produced a fine effort in a race run to suit those up front. Gracious Express ran on steadily for fourth without threatening the top three after a rails run from midfield. It was another honest effort. Kaholo Angel came from near last to finish next best after switching to be widest out upon straight following a patient ride one from the rear. He might be on his mark after only running on without threatening in two of three starts this term. Stellar Express only plodded when asked for more following a wide trip without cover from around midfield.
