Race Eight : (72) - BEIJING HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400Meters
Horse No 1 COPARTNER PRANCE (H408) Z Purton After the event, Z Purton reported that his mount raced too keenly in the early and middle stages when positioned outside the leader DROMBEG BANNER and as a result COPARTNER PRANCE did not respond to his riding in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 2 HELENE FEELING (H215) H Bowman Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 4 DROMBEG BANNER (H117) A Atzeni Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 5 PATCH OF THETA (H485) C Y Ho Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 KEEFY (G306) K C Leung Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 7 DANCING CODE (G365) M L Yeung From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 8 SUNLIGHT POWER (H244) C L Chau Jumped only fairly.
When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, C L Chau stated that after improving to the inside of COPARTNER PRANCE near the 200 Metres he then directed SUNLIGHT POWER to the outside of DROMBEG BANNER to secure clear running that was available.
He said as he attempted to obtain this run, PATCH OF THETA shifted in slightly and DROMBEG BANNER (A Atzeni) shifted out which resulted in SUNLIGHT POWER being disappointed for clear running and not being able to be ridden out over the final 50 Metres.
A Atzeni was advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mounts when they shift ground whilst not clear.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 9 SUPERB BOY (G335) L Hewitson Near the 500 Metres was steadied when crowded between KEEFY and SUNLIGHT POWER (C L Chau) which shifted out.
C L Chau was advised to exercise more care.
Noted to have lost its right front plate after the race.

After clearing to the lead from gate three and skipping clear by two lengths upon straightening, Drombeg Banner showed his tenacity to hold off second favourite Patch Of Theta for a fifth win from 16 starts. Patch Of Theta ran on nicely to make it close on the wire after a one-off trip behind midfield. He remains one to follow. Favourite Sunlight Power had repeated traffic issues after settling better than midfield on the fence. He should have gone close to winning. Dancing Code dashed late for fourth without threatening the top three after making his run two from the rear. It was a good effort off a 199-day injury absence. Superb Boy kept on one paced after settling prominently with cover one off the fence. He lost nothing in defeat in a quality Class Two race. Outgate ran on without threatening down the outside after making his run one from the rear. Copartner Prance faded after settling one off the fence behind the eventual winner. He couldn't lift carrying top weight with a rise in trip.
