Recap by phillip woo

After enjoying a dream run on the leader's back from gate four, Sky Song took control 50m out for a first win at his seventh start. He relished the downgrade and a return to the turf. Punted late, Speedy Chariot ran on well from midfield after a one-off trip to just take second. He is a winner waiting to happen after opening the campaign with a closing fourth 14 days ago. Woodfire Champ grudgingly gave way after getting his own way in front from gate six. He lived up to a trial win following a gear change. Early favourite Dan Attack finished fourth after a pace-stalking run from a tricky gate. He wasn't good enough carrying a big weight despite a downgrade. Gallant Goody produced a grinding effort from just worse than midfield on the fence. Wind Speeder and Tattenham made headway late near the inside after travelling second last and last, respectively, in the run from outside draws. Post-time favourite Beau Gosse just plodded when push came to shove after a one-out, one-back run. The step back in distance backfired after he'd resumed with a front-running fourth over 1,400m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two : (48) - QUARRY BAY HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 SKY SONG (J159) H Bowman Bumped shortly after the start.

Briefly crowded near the 900 Metres.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 2 DAN ATTACK (H317) Z Purton Bumped on jumping.

Horse No 4 TATTENHAM (H121) M F Poon From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Over the concluding stages raced in restricted room between WIND SPEEDER and DAN ATTACK.

Horse No 6 SPEEDY CHARIOT (H193) B Avdulla Making the first turn near the 1000 Metres was steadied when crowded by SKY SONG which was taken in by WOODFIRE CHAMP (M L Yeung) which shifted in before being corrected by its rider.

M L Yeung was reprimanded.

In assessing the incident, the Stewards also found that SPEEDY CHARIOT had lay out during the incident and contributed to the interference.

M L Yeung pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SKY SONG, taking SKY SONG in across the running of SPEEDY CHARITY which was checked.

M L Yeung was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 16 October 2024 at Happy Valley.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his very good race riding record.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 GALLANT GOODY (H434) M Chadwick Jumped only fairly and then was crowded between CHEER FOR SOUTH and DAN ATTACK, both of which shifted ground.

Making the Home Turn raced tight to the inside of SPEEDY CHARIOT as it endeavoured to improve into a narrow run to that runner's inside.

Horse No 8 BEAU GOSSE (G389) C L Chau Bumped shortly after the start.

After travelling a short distance was steadied when crowded between SKY SONG and HERO WARRIOR, both of which shifted ground slightly.

After the event, C L Chau stated that his mount finished the race off in a one-paced manner and would appreciate being stepped up in distance for its next race start.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 9 WOODFIRE CHAMP (H292) M L Yeung M L Yeung pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 900 Metres (see SPEEDY CHARIOT).
