Recap by phillip woo

Shanghai Style led and never looked back after turning the final bend three lengths on top for an upset win at his fourth start and third over the dirt 1,200m. It was an unexpected result. Hinokami Kagura ran on well for second after a wide with cover trip from behind midfield. He is a winner waiting to happen after filling the frame in five of his past six starts on this surface. Punted late Crazy Treasure stayed on nicely for third after making his run wide without cover travelling midfield from gate 11. He has finished in the mix in six of his past seven starts and should be able to salute if he can find his way into Class Five. Favourite Robot Knight whacked on one-paced to finish a distant fourth after chasing the leading pair with cover. He had no excuse. Punted late Aca Power came from last and widest out to finish next best. He couldn't cope carrying six pounds more following a win. Currahee gradually faded after a prominent run along the fence. Sky Trust ran on without threatening ridden near the rear from gate 10.

Horse No 2 HAPPY HOLIDAY (J240) K Teetan A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.

Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY HOLIDAY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 3 ROBOT KNIGHT (H464) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 ACA POWER (E144) A Badel Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded between ACE VICTORY which shifted out and EURO ROCKS which shifted in after being bumped by COSMO NAVIGATOR which jumped awkwardly.

Horse No 6 SHANGHAI STYLE (J093) K H Chan When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer C S Shum stated that at its first race start and its most recent start, SHANGHAI STYLE had been found to be lame in the right hind leg which he attributed to the horse's disappointing performance.

He said after its last start SHANGHAI STYLE was given a spell and moved to his Conghua stable where it had barrier trialed well on 27 June 2024 prior to today's event.

He added SHANGHAI STYLE was benefited by being able to dictate the race in front and also had derived benefit from its previous race day experiences.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 ACE VICTORY (H076) K C Leung Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start.

After the race, K C Leung reported that his mount, which was having its first race start on the All Weather Track, did not like the kickback on this surface.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a roarer which had previously been reported.

Horse No 8 HINOKAMI KAGURA (H384) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 9 SKY SONG (J159) B Thompson From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Before being allowed to race again, FLYING DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No SAVVY CHIC (G261) K C Leung The Stewards today inquired into the circumstances of SAVVY CHIC being entered for this event when it had been treated with a inhale bronchodilator medication inside the recommended withdrawal period, which resulted in SAVVY CHIC being withdrawn from this event by order of the Stewards on 3 July 2024.

Evidence was today taken from Mr F C Lor, trainer of SAVVY CHIC.

It was established that due to the late closure of entries for this event the stable had not implemented the usual warning systems to prevent the treatment within the recommended withdrawal period.

Mr Lor was fined the sum of $20,000 under Rule 50(5) for failing to adhere to the requirements of Trainers' Handbook Regulation 69(h) in that he failed to take all proper precautions to ensure the recommended withdrawal period is applied to the administration of any medication containing a prohibited substance.

Before being allowed to race again, SAVVY CHIC will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
