Racing Incident Report
Race Seven : (748) - THISTLE HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 NORDIC DRAGON (G467) H Bowman Leaving the 50 Metres was held up behind LUCKY ARCHANGEL and then was not able to be fully ridden out to the finish of the event when it remained positioned behind that runner.
Horse No 2 CELESTIAL COLOURS (H362) E C W Wong Shifted out on jumping and was bumped.
Over-raced throughout the early and middle stages.
Horse No 3 RISING FROM ASHES (G209) H T Mo Jumped awkwardly .
Horse No 5 ASTROLOGER (G102) K C Leung Jumped awkwardly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Held up making the Home Turn and leaving the 300 Metres was shifted to the outside of YOUNG ARROW to obtain clear running.
Horse No 6 GOLDEN EMPIRE (E490) L Hewitson Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 ACE VICTORY (H076) B Thompson Bumped shortly after the start.
Horse No 10 YOUNG ARROW (J401) K De Melo Jumped only fairly.
Over-raced in the middle stages and near the 550 Metres when racing keenly was steadied to avoid CALIFORNIA DEEPLY.
Horse No 11 CALIFORNIA DEEPLY (G451) M Chadwick Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 12 LUCKY ARCHANGEL (E385) M F Poon When questioned, M F Poon stated that consistent with previous instructions he was asked to take up a forward position tonight.
He said LUCKY ARCHANGEL jumped well and showed good speed in the early stages where it was able to cross and lead the event in a race run close to standard time.
He added after enjoying a comfortable run in the lead, under its light weight, LUCKY ARCHANGEL responded to his riding in the Home Straight and as a result was able to finish the race off strongly to win the race.
Trainer F C Lor confirmed the instructions issued and explained such instructions had been consistent with previous race starts.
He added that LUCKY ARCHANGEL was advantaged by carrying the minimum weight of 115 lbs due to its rating being lowered in recent starts and also by being able to obtain the lead at a comfortable pace from a favourable barrier.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No WINNING ICEY (G246) L Ferraris Withdrawn on 11.6.24 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (heart irregularity) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter MANRAY HONOUR.
Before being allowed to race again, WINNING ICEY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Outsider Lucky Archangel kept on gamely to just hold favourite California Deeply after emerging with the lead from gate five. He scored his seventh career win and fourth from 14 starts this term. It was a return to form but he was a well-rated runner. California Deeply ran on nicely after a one-off trip from midfield to finish a close second. He has been racing well without winning. Nordic Dragon ran on steadily along the inside to just edge Astrologer for third after a rail run from behind midfield. He should find his mark shortly in this grade. Astrologer came from last after peeling into the open 250m out to just miss a placing. It was his best run from nine starts this term. Punted late, Super Joy N Fun went forward out wide from gate 12 to track the eventual winner one off. He had an excuse. Golden Empire weakened in the run to the wire after getting posted wide without cover from better than midfield. Rising From Ashes made some ground near the inside without ever looking a threat after a patient ride two from the rear.
