Recap by phillip woo

Supreme Lucky just held off Wonder Kit after rushing to the front 60m following a wide without cover trip from gate 12 travelling better than midfield for a fifth career win and second on a wet track this season. He appreciated the give in the ground after staying on fourth best in two prior starts. Wonder Kid made it close on the wire after coming off heels for a clear run 250m out following a box seat run. He is honest as the day is long. Blue Marlin ran on nicely widest out for third after a three-wide trip travelling behind midfield from the widest draw. He continues to hold his condition very well. Atullibigeal made up heaps of ground late near the inside to snatch fourth ridden second last from a wide draw. He rarely produces a bad run. Telecom Fighters grudgingly gave way after emerging with the front 1,150m out from gate six. It wasn't a bad run outside his comfort zone at the Valley. Lucky Encounter tired late after a pace-pressing role from gate nine. He's better suited over the 1,200m. Favourite Outgate never landed a blow after a prominent run one off the fence. This was too rich with a return to Sha Tin.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine : (625) - FWD INSURANCE CCB (ASIA) HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 TELECOM FIGHTERS (D482) E C W Wong Noted to have sustained a laceration to the right hind pastern.

Horse No 2 THE GOLDEN SCENERY (E379) B Avdulla Jumped only fairly.

Horse No 3 ATULLIBIGEAL (G173) H Bowman Jumped only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 4 FANTASTIC TREASURE (E269) M L Yeung A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 DROMBEG BANNER (H117) K Teetan After the race, K Teetan advised that he had expected to lead the event.

He said despite riding his mount along in the early stages DROMBEG BANNER failed to show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.

Horse No 6 LUCKY ENCOUNTER (H274) A Atzeni Noted to have bled from both nostrils after the race.

Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY ENCOUNTER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 7 WONDER KIT (G455) L Hewitson When questioned regarding his riding in the early part of the Home Straight and the reason he shifted to the outside of TELECOM FIGHTERS, L Hewitson stated that after following TELECOM FIGHTERS, his initial decision was to improve to that runner's inside.

He said as he commenced to do so near the 400 Metres, WONDER KIT did not immediately respond to his riding and when he then was concerned that TELECOM FIGHTERS would shift in, crowding his running and halting his momentum, he then elected near the 350 Metres to shift to the outside of TELECOM FIGHTERS and LUCKY ENCOUNTER to obtain clear running.

He added that when being shifted to the outside of LUCKY ENCOUNTER, his mount brushed SUPREME LUCKY before finishing the race off well.

Whilst L Hewitson conceded that the run had remained open to the inside of TELECOM FIGHTERS in the Home Straight, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Hewitson in the circumstances were reasonable having regard to the explanations he provided.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 9 OUTGATE (H113) Y L Chung After the race, Apprentice Y L Chung reported that his mount travelled only fairly throughout the event and, in his opinion, did not appreciate today's "Yielding" track conditions.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 SUPERB BOY (G335) A Badel A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 SUPREME LUCKY (G457) M F Poon Raced keenly in the early stages and near the 1100 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from KEEFY.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 13 MIGHTY STRIDE (G346) L Morris A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, MIGHTY STRIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
