Recap by phillip woo

California Touch just scrambled in after turning the final bend nearly three lengths on top for a first win at his eighth local start. He relished the downgrade. Firming favourite Ka Ying Cheer just failed to get up for the win despite hanging out under pressure after stalking the pace. It was a good effort trying the Valley for the first time off a long break. My Intelligent stayed on nicely for third after settling wide with cover in midfield. He's racing consistently well of late. Country Dancer had every chance after settling one off the rail in midfield but only plodded over the last 100m. He is still only a three-year-old and likely needs more time to fill out. Multidarling ran on without threatening after settling in third last from a tricky gate. He isn't easy to get right. Cheer For South only plodded after chasing the speed wide without cover early on. Champion Method ran on without menacing after making his run at the rear from gate 12. Run Run Timing found nothing when asked for an effort after travelling in midfield on the fence. He has disappointed three times after a Sha Tin 1,200m win in January.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (594) - MOUNT BUTLER HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 KA YING CHEER (H369) H Bowman When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight and the reason he positioned his mount out towards the middle of the track, H Bowman stated that in pre-race discussions with Trainer P C Ng, he had been given the option of racing in this position as a number of winners tonight had won from this position.

He said after racing outside the leader CALIFORNIA TOUCH, he allowed KA YING CHEER to shift out on the Home Turn, without having to direct his mount to do so, in accordance with the pre-race discussions that he had with connections.

Mr Ng confirmed that Jockey Bowman was given the option of allowing KA YING CHEER to race in this position in the Home Straight.
