Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed Golden Link was too good for his rivals after hitting the lead 200m out. He took advantage of a better draw after an eye-catching second on his last start from gate 12. Hercules came with a barnstorming late run for second after a patient ride from gate 11. He's always a chance over the Valley 1,200m. Telecom Speed stayed on well for third after chasing the speed three wide without cover. It was a solid run carrying top weight. Favourite Winning Heart ran on steadily for fourth after settling one off the rail in midfield. He couldn't back up a last-start win carrying seven pounds more. Great Achiever ran on OK to finish next best after settling on the rail behind midfield. He's shown hints of ability in his six starts but is still a work in progress. Punted late, Mr Valiant was on his tippy toes 100m out after finding the front just under the 900m marker from gate one. He needed the run after a nosebleed in November. Crystal Powerful ran on without threatening after settling fourth last from a middle draw. He's only gone OK in two of three starts following a win.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (574) - FREESIA HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 TELECOM SPEED (G259) H Bowman Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 2 SAVVY CHIC (G261) B Avdulla When questioned, B Avdulla stated that his instructions were to take up a forward position and attempt to lead if possible.

He said after riding his mount along in the early stages to comply with his instructions, when MR VALIANT held the lead, he elected to take up a position to that runner's outside.

He added that in the Home Straight SAVVY CHIC failed to respond to his riding and gave ground.

Trainer F C Lor confirmed the instructions and stated that he issued such instructions on the basis that SAVVY CHIC was able to win in the same grade when racing in an on-pace position and also barrier trialed well on 2 April 2024 when it led.

He added that, in his opinion, SAVVY CHIC may have been better suited by being allowed to stride forward in the early stages and cross MR VALIANT.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Before being allowed to race again, SAVVY CHIC will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 4 GREAT ACHIEVER (J049) C L Chau In the early stages raced ungenerously when positioned tight to the inside of SAVVY CHIC.

After being crossed by SAVVY CHIC, GREAT ACHIEVER continued to race ungenerously for some distance thereafter.

Horse No 5 MOLLY'S WITNESS (J121) A Hamelin Jumped awkwardly and then bumped with HERCULES.

Horse No 6 WINNING HEART (H065) H Bentley After the race, H Bentley stated that his intention was to endeavour to hold a more forward position, but despite riding his mount along in the early stages WINNING HEART did not show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 7 CERVIN (H253) K H Chan Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with CRYSTAL POWERFUL.

Was then steadied when crowded between CRYSTAL POWERFUL and SAME TO YOU which shifted in.

Horse No 8 CRYSTAL POWERFUL (H068) A Atzeni Bumped on the hindquarters at the start.

Horse No 9 GOLDEN LINK (D222) K Teetan Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 FALCON COURT (J056) M L Yeung From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 11 HERCULES (C476) Y L Chung Bumped at the start and was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages from a wide barrier.

Approaching the 200 Metres lay in and was awkwardly placed behind WINNING HEART when being shifted to that runner's outside to improve.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 12 SAME TO YOU (H057) B Thompson Shortly after the start was bumped by CRYSTAL POWERFUL which shifted out slightly.
