Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Patch Of Theta won going away 80m out after a one-off trip from better than midfield for an overdue win after placing in his first tour starts. He relished a step up to 1,400m and there's clearly more to come from him. Voyage Samurai kept on nicely for second after poking his head in front 250m out following a pace-stalking run outside Smart Folks. It was a solid effort carrying more weight following a debut win. Golden Rise ran into a couple of nice ones after getting every chance in the box seat. Ariel just held his ground after a one-out, one-back run. He's honest but has trouble winning. Happy Daily made headway late to just miss fourth after making his run five back and one off the fence. He's getting close to a bottom. Urban Triumph made some ground without threatening after a rails run from behind midfield. It was his best effort from eight starts. Smiling Collector made headway late after biding his time two from the rear. He couldn't build on a near win from a handy spot last start.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six : (489) - LUNG KONG HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Meters

Horse No 1 FOREVER CHARM (J081) A Badel Bumped heavily on the hindquarters on jumping and became unbalanced.

Was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages from the outside barrier.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 2 VOYAGE SAMURAI (J026) K C Leung On the Home Turn lay out and near the 450 Metres was bumped by GOLDEN RISE which shifted out to improve.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 3 GOLDEN RISE (H242) J McDonald Making the Home Turn obtained a narrow run between SMART FOLKS and VOYAGE SAMURAI and as a result made slight contact with VOYAGE SAMURAI.

Horse No 5 COMPASSION SPIRIT (D167) A Atzeni On jumping was checked when crowded between FOREVER CHARM and HAPPY DAILY which was taken out by FOREMOST TEDDY which shifted out despite the efforts of its rider.

Horse No 6 HAPPY DAILY (E294) Y L Chung Crowded at the start.

Near the 1200 Metres raced in restricted room between SMILING COLLECTOR and PATCH OF THETA.

Horse No 7 PATCH OF THETA (H485) H Bowman Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 MASTER TORNADO (G410) K Teetan Near the 1200 Metres was steadied away from RIVER VIEWS.

After the race, K Teetan reported that when under pressure in the Home Straight his mount changed stride on a number of occasions and did not finish the race off.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 10 SMILING COLLECTOR (G128) L Ferraris Jumped only fairly.

Near the 1200 Metres raced tight between HAPPY DAILY and MASTER TORNADO which shifted to the inside of RIVER VIEWS as that runner was being shifted in.

On the Home Turn was held up for clear running.

Near the 200 Metres became held up behind RIVER VIEWS for a short distance and was shifted to that runner's inside to obtain clear running.

Horse No 11 RIVER VIEWS (G212) C L Chau After the race, C L Chau stated that with the expected fast early pace he was given the option to obtain a position with cover behind the lead.

He said whilst he rode his mount along in the early stages to hold a forward position, he then elected near the 1300 Metres to attempt to obtain a position with cover as instructed.

He added when PATCH OF THETA held a position one-off the rail, this resulted in RIVER VIEWS being obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Trainer T P Yung confirmed the instructions were to obtain cover.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 14 URBAN TRIUMPH (H200) M Chadwick Shifted out at the start and was bumped.

Horse No 12 SHINKANSEN (H277) H Bentley Became fractious after being loaded, reared and struck its head against the barrier.

Acting on veterinary advice that SHINKANSEN was not suitable to race, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

Before being allowed to race again, SHINKANSEN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
