Recap by phillip woo

Happy Soul weaved a run near the inside to claim victory 100m out after settling on the rail in midfield. It was only his second win from 20 starts but he had been knocking on the door in recent runs from awkward gates. Lucky Planet stayed on nicely for second after finding a prominent spot with cover from a tricky gate. He's a winner waiting to happen if he sticks to the Valley. Punted late, Happy Golf ran on steadily for third after a handy run one off the fence. It was a good effort carrying top weight following a win. Lyrical Motion made late ground near the inside to snatch fourth after biding his time at the rear from gate eight. It was another honest performance. Well-backed Hero Star gradually faded after turning the final bend two lengths on top from gate 12. Togepi finished next best after peeling into the open approaching the 200m. He requires a stronger pace. Joyful Life was on his tippy toes 100m out after going forward from a wide draw to chase the leader. He had an excuse. Favourite Flying Phantom weakened after chasing the speed wide without cover from gate six.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine : (483) - TAI FUNG COACH HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 HAPPY GOLF (H056) B Avdulla Near the 1000 Metres got its head up when crowded between FLYING PHANTOM and SERGEANT PEPPER which shifted out.

Lay in in the Home Straight and near the 150 Metres its rider B Avdulla was obliged to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Horse No 3 LYRICAL MOTION (G081) H Bowman Near the 1150 Metres was steadied when crowded between LUCKY PLANET which shifted in before being corrected by its rider H Bentley and TEAM HAPPY which was taken out slightly by FLYING PHANTOM which was positioned tight to the outside of TOGEPI (L Ferraris) which shifted out.

Both H Bentley and L Ferraris were advised to exercise more care.

Passing the 400 Metres was held up for clear running behind TOGEPI.

Horse No 4 HIGH RISE SOLDIER (C511) A Hamelin From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 5 SERGEANT PEPPER (E432) C L Chau Approaching the 1000 Metres commenced to race keenly and got its head up when being steadied to avoid HERO STAR (Apprentice Y L Chung) when that runner was steadied in front.

Whilst the Stewards accepted that SERGEANT PEPPER had raced keenly at that stage, Apprentice Chung was advised that he must ensure he does not ease the tempo too quickly in similar circumstances.

Horse No 6 TEAM HAPPY (J218) A Badel Near the 1150 Metres was crowded.

Horse No 7 FLYING PHANTOM (J086) Z Purton Near the 1150 Metres was crowded.

After the 400 Metres was bumped by LUCKY PLANET which shifted out to improve.

When questioned, Z Purton stated that his mount was caught wide and without cover in an on-pace position and as a result was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight.

He added that near the 150 Metres his mount was momentarily crowded by HAPPY GOLF when that runner shifted in.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 MISTER FOX (J059) B Thompson Crowded shortly after the start.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Before being allowed to race again, MISTER FOX will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 9 HAPPY SOUL (G249) K De Melo Crowded shortly after the start.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 LUCKY PLANET (H235) H Bentley Made contact with FLYING PHANTOM after the 400 Metres.

When questioned, H Bentley stated that from a wide barrier his instructions were to take up a forward position.

Sent for sampling post-race.
