Racing Incident Report
Race Four : (449) - CITIGOLD HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 MASTER STROKE (J036) L Ferraris Shortly after the start was badly crowded by SOARING BRONCO which was taken in by HIGH RISE POWER.
Horse No 2 SPEED SWORD (H397) H Bowman The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered an application from Trainer F C Lor that SPEED SWORD had been denied a fair start.
After taking evidence from H Bowman and Mr A Speechley, the Starter, and after viewing the patrol films, it was established that SPEED SWORD became fractious in the barriers as the start was effected and as a result turned its head to the right and failed to jump with the field, losing significant ground.
As the Stewards were satisfied that such occurrence had simultaneously occurred as the start was effected, SPEED SWORD was declared a runner.
Trainer F C Lor was advised that SPEED SWORD will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial prior to its next race start.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 3 LIFELINE EXPRESS (H439) A Badel Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 4 SOLID SHALAA (H228) K Teetan Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 5 FAIRY HORSE (J144) L Hewitson From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Horse No 6 PACKING PROSPECT (H424) J McDonald Approaching the 200 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between WINNING HEART and CHAMPION INSTINCT which shifted in slightly.
Was then directed to the outside of CHAMPION INSTINCT where it secured clear running at the 150 Metres.
Horse No 7 SAVVY ELEGANCE (J068) M Chadwick Slow to begin and was bumped shortly after the start.
In the middle stages raced keenly and for some distance after the 1000 Metres got its head up when being restrained away from PACKING PROSPECT.
Horse No 8 SOARING BRONCO (J162) Y L Chung Jumped awkwardly and was crowded shortly after the start.
Horse No 9 YEE CHEONG RAIDER (J176) A Hamelin Slow to begin and was bumped shortly after the start.
Horse No 10 CHAMPION INSTINCT (H012) A Atzeni Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 11 HIGH RISE POWER (H353) K De Melo Shifted in on jumping.
Horse No 12 CRAZY TREASURE (J063) B Thompson From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Favourite Champion Instinct settled outside the leader in a contest without any great pace before finishing strongly to land his second successive victory. After taking 11 runs to break his maiden, the penny has really dropped for David Hall's galloper and he looks to have plenty more to give. Solid Shalaa produced an eye-catching run for second, flashing home from behind midfield to get withing a length and a quarter of the winner. The David Hayes-trained four-year-old was one of few to make ground in the race, with Packing Prospect sticking on for third after tracking the leader throughout and Lifeline Express fourth after a prominent run three wide. Crazy Treasure turned in an improved showing at his fourth start, going back from gate 13 before closing nicely for fifth at $15. Soaring Bronco finished sixth, showing enough on debut to suggest he has a future, while Speed Sword completely bungled the start and finished last.
