Racing Incident Report
Race Five : (422) - THE VOLUNTEERS' CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 ATOMIC FORCE (G221) H Bentley Near the 900 Metres was steadied away from HAPPY TRIO.
Sent for sampling post-race.
H Bentley pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference over the concluding stages (see LUCKY ARCHANGEL).
Horse No 2 LUCKY ARCHANGEL (E385) M F Poon H Bentley (ATOMIC FORCE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of LUCKY ARCHANGEL, resulting in LUCKY ARCHANGEL losing its rightful running and having to be checked.
H Bentley was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Sunday, 25 February 2024 at Sha Tin.
In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his excellent race riding record.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 3 A AMERIC TE SPECSO (H037) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 COLOURFUL EMPEROR (H167) L Hewitson Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 5 KYEEMA (J055) L Ferraris As the start was effected became fractious, reared and lost ground.
As the Stewards were satisfied that such occurrence was due to the horse's barrier manners as the start was effected, it was declared a starter.
Before being allowed to race again, KYEEMA will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 6 HAPPY TRIO (G244) K Teetan Making the first turn near the 1000 Metres commenced to race keenly and lay out.
Near the 150 Metres was eased when crowded between ATOMIC FORCE and LUCKY ARCHANGEL (M F Poon) which shifted out.
M F Poon was severely reprimanded.
Horse No 8 DENFIELD (G471) Y L Chung Near the 1100 Metres raced tight between LUCKY ARCHANGEL and COLOURFUL EMPEROR, both of which shifted ground slightly.
Horse No 9 JUMBO FORTUNE (G195) A Hamelin Slow to begin.
Horse No 10 KYRUS DRAGON (H396) A Badel Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 11 TOGEPI (G458) A Atzeni A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After a patient ride towards the rear from gate 11, well-backed A Americ Te Specso came with a perfectly timed run under Zac Purton to just claim Atomic Force in the last stride for a second win this season and first in Class Three. He deserved the victory after filling the frame in four of five prior starts at this level. Atomic Force settled one off the rail in midfield and did everything right but could not get the win after hitting the lead close to home. He was well rated after placing off 80 earlier in the term. Firming favourite Colourful Emperor was touched off late after dictating the race from gate two. He's racing well without winning. Denfield stayed on well after travelling in the box seat. It was his best effort from five starts in the grade. Kyrus Dragon ran on steadily to grab fifth after settling on the rail behind midfield. He might be one to keep safe with Class Four on the horizon. Lucky Archangel was only one paced when having to take hold close to home after stalking the pace. He requires further rating relief. Kyeema was a non-factor after rearing badly at the start.
