After a wide run without cover cover behind midfield, firming favourite Simply Maverick responded nicely to take control 60m out and make it three wins from his past four starts over the Valley's 1,650m. He was stepping up in grade and still has points in hand. Plunged late, Red Hare King stayed on nicely to edge Turin Mascot for second after getting shuffled back to fourth rounding the final bend. It was another solid run despite a rise in class. Turin Mascot ran on nicely to just miss second after settling third last from gate 11. It was another honest effort stepping back in distance. Following a wide trip in midfield, Ivy League skipped away to lead by three lengths at the 500m marker but tired late for fourth. Winning Dragon finished next best after working hard to chase the pace from gate 10. He's not far off a bottom. Romantic Laos ran on without threatening after he was ridden cold early on from gate 12. Solid Impact just plodded after a one-off trip in midfield. He's not a miler. Thesis was a late withdrawal by order of the stewards on veterinary advice.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine : (387) - O'BRIEN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 GALLANT WAKING (G165) C L Chau Slow to begin and then was crowded by SIMPLY MAVERICK which shifted out.

After the race, C L Chau reported that after being held up for some distance near the 400 Metres GALLANT WAKING found it difficult to make up ground in the Home Straight due to carrying the top weight in the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 4 ROMANTIC LAOS (G476) Z Purton From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 6 LEAN HERO (G402) H Bowman After the race, H Bowman reported that when caught wide in the early stages he was obliged to shift across behind runners to avoid racing wide and settled further back than intended.

He added with the pace of the middle stages being run outside of standard, LEAN HERO was unable to make up ground in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 7 IVY LEAGUE (H116) M Chadwick From the 800 Metres was left racing wide and without cover.

Horse No 8 SIMPLY MAVERICK (H346) A Atzeni Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 9 SOLID IMPACT (E447) K De Melo After the race, K De Melo reported that in the Home Straight his mount hung in and proved difficult to ride out to the finish of the event.

Horse No 11 MAJESTIC SPEED (J018) M L Yeung Slow to begin.

Raced keenly in the early stages.

The performance of MAJESTIC SPEED, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, MAJESTIC SPEED will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 12 RED HARE KING (H188) L Hewitson Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 10 THESIS (H111) A Badel After arriving at the Start, THESIS was inspected at the request of Jockey A Badel and was found to be lame in the left front leg.

Acting on veterinary advice that the horse was not suitable to race, THESIS was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

Before being allowed to race again, THESIS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
