Racing Incident Report
Race Six : (330) - THE JANUARY CUP (HANDICAP) - Class G3 - 1800Meters
Horse No 1 ENCOUNTERED (G236) K C Leung Passing the 1500 Metres was steadied away from SWORD POINT when that runner was steadied to obtain cover behind MONEY CATCHER.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 2 MONEY CATCHER (G171) M Chadwick Bumped at the start.
When questioned regarding his riding and the reason he made a forward move from the 750 Metres when positioned behind NIMBLE NIMBUS, M Chadwick stated that after following NIMBLE NIMBUS in the early and middle stages, he felt NIMBLE NIMBUS gave ground slightly on the leader TELECOM FIGHTERS and as MONEY CATCHER is one-paced, he elected to shift out and commenced to improve into the event.
He added from that point MONEY CATCHER was obliged to race wide and without cover and finished the race off only fairly.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 3 SWORD POINT (G448) H Bowman When questioned, H Bowman stated that after following MONEY CATCHER, when that runner improved from the 750 Metres, SWORD POINT then was positioned to the inside of MONEY CATCHER which was racing three wide.
He stated that his intention was to endeavour to follow MONEY CATCHER from the 500 Metres, however, SWORD POINT lay in and when positioned to the inside of MONEY CATCHER was unable to shift out.
He added as a result he then continued to follow NIMBLE NIMBUS and from the 350 Metres endeavoured to shift to the outside of NIMBLE NIMBUS to secure clear running, however, SWORD POINT hung in and he was unable to shift to the outside of that runner.
He further stated that near the 200 Metres he was held up for clear running behind TELECOM FIGHTERS whereby SWORD POINT lost momentum and did not finish the race off from that point.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 5 TOURBILLON DIAMOND (E054) H Bentley Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 6 CHAMPION DRAGON (G070) Y L Chung Despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.
After the 1500 Metres raced tight to the inside of ENCOUNTERED.
Approaching the 1200 Metres, when racing keenly, was steadied away from the heels of ENCOUNTERED which shifted in.
Horse No 7 HELENE FEELING (H215) C Y Ho Crowded shortly after the start.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 8 NIMBLE NIMBUS (E249) A Atzeni Jumped awkwardly and was bumped.
Horse No 9 HAPPY TOGETHER (G446) A Badel Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 10 RISING FROM ASHES (G209) K De Melo After the race, K De Melo reported that his mount made an abnormal breathing noise during the event.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.
Horse No 11 LA CITY BLANCHE (G371) K Teetan Making the turn near the 350 Metres hung out and was steadied away from SWORD POINT.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 12 BERLIN TANGO (E120) M F Poon Crowded shortly after the start.

Settling one off the fence better than midfield, Happy Together hit the front 150m out and kept on gamely to ring up a fourth win of the season and second consecutive victory at the Valley. He's racing very well for his new trainer and enjoyed the light weight. La City Blanche ran on nicely to finish a close second after a rail run behind midfield. He can produce a good run now and then. Favourite Helene Feeling found a couple too good after a well-executed ride fourth on the fence from gate nine. It was another good run up in class following a win. Nimble Nimbus stayed on well for fourth after working hard to chase the speed from gate 11. He's as honest as the day is long. Tourbillon Diamond ran on to finish next best after making his run five back on the fence. He has been racing better of late. After a sluggish start, Champion Dragon settled third last and made some late ground without threatening. He's better when allowed to bowl along in front or in a speed-tracking role. Sword Point was badly held up behind the tiring leader Telecom Fighters after settling one off the fence in midfield.
