Recap by phillip woo

Togepi dashed well after turning the final bend three from the rear to get up in the final few strides for his second win from 15 starts. The strong early pace suited him after he had hit the line well in two of his previous three races. King Eccellente made it close on the wire, demonstrating his good turn of foot after Karis Teetan rode him cold from the outside gate. He is always a chance over Happy Valley's 1,200m. Run Run Timing raced prominently on the fence and surged to the lead inside the final 100m but found a couple too good. He has caught the eye in runs at both tracks and should break through soon. Happy Soul closed off reasonably well to snatch fourth after settling towards the rear. It was a better effort fourth up this season. Joy Coming just missed the frame after his wide midfield trip. It was another honest effort, but he is struggling at the top of the weights. Golden Luck ran on steadily without threatening the winner after his rail run behind midfield. Favourite Beauty Destiny led from barrier one and entered the home straight three lengths on top but ran out of gas 100m out. He has been very costly to punters.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four : (245) - KWUN TONG HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 1 JOY COMING (H149) C Y Ho Bumped on jumping.

After the race, C Y Ho reported that his mount hung in over the final 150 Metres and when racing tight to the inside of TOGEPI, he could not fully test his mount out to the finish of the event.

Horse No 2 SHINING FORTUNE (G252) A Badel Bumped at the start.

Horse No 3 TOGEPI (G458) L Ferraris Taken wider after the 500 Metres by HAPPY SOUL.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 SUPER BONUS (H259) A Hamelin After the race, A Hamelin reported that he had concern with his mount's action during the running of the event and for this reason he did not ride it out fully to the finish of the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a laceration to its right hind leg.

The performance of SUPER BONUS was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, SUPER BONUS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 5 GOLDEN LUCK (H159) B Avdulla Jumped only fairly.

From the 600 Metres was awkwardly placed close to SUPER BONUS as that runner commenced to give ground.

Horse No 7 KING ECCELLENTE (G264) K Teetan Made contact with a rail on entering the track, examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start and passed suitable to race.

After the race, both K Teetan and Trainer D J Whyte confirmed that from the outside barrier the intention was to ride KING ECCELLENTE in a conservative manner in the early stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 8 BEAUTY DESTINY (H281) Z Purton When questioned, Z Purton stated that as his mount had given ground at its previous race starts, he allowed BEAUTY DESTINY to lead at a genuine pace to endeavour to allow it to establish a lead over the field entering the Home Straight.

He said as soon as he placed his mount under pressure near the 300 Metres, BEAUTY DESTINY failed to respond to his riding, lay in and did not finish the race off.

Trainer F C Lor stated that as BEAUTY DESTINY had disappointed him at its last start, he had applied sheepskin cheek pieces and a tongue tie to the horse in an attempt to help it focus.

He added he could offer no explanation for the horse's disappointing performance and would now consider dropping BEAUTY DESTINY back in distance and may also look to ride it in a more conservative manner in the early stages at its next start.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 9 HAPPY SOUL (G249) C L Chau Bumped on jumping.

From the 600 Metres became held up behind SUPER BONUS which was giving ground and leaving the 500 Metres was checked to avoid that runner's heels.

Approaching the 100 Metres raced tight to the inside of COLONEL.

Horse No 10 COURIER MAGIC (H290) K De Melo Jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

After the 400 Metres was checked when crowded to the inside of SUPER BONUS which shifted in slightly when giving ground.

The Stewards were satisfied that the racing manners of SUPER BONUS were the reason for COURIER MAGIC losing its running at that point.

Horse No 11 ACE TALENT (H046) L Hewitson When giving ground near the 150 Metres was steadied away from GOLDEN LUCK which shifted out.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea.
