Race Nine : (184) - THE BOCHK JOCKEY CLUB CUP - Class G2 - 2000Meters
Horse No 1 RUSSIAN EMPEROR (E198) M Chadwick From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Bumped on the hindquarters near the 300 Metres.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 2 SENOR TOBA (G103) L Hewitson Jumped only fairly.
When commencing to finish the race off well, was directed to the outside of SWORD POINT near the 25 Metres in an attempt to secure clear running, but then was checked away from NIMBLE NIMBUS when that runner was taken in.
Horse No 4 FIVE G PATCH (G286) A Badel A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 5 GLORIOUS DRAGON (C120) A Atzeni Jumped awkwardly.
In the early stages over-raced and near the 1300 Meres was allowed to stride forward and was then caught wide and without cover from that point when SWORD POINT shifted out to a position outside MONEY CATCHER, before weakening in the Home Straight.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Before being allowed to race again, GLORIOUS DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Horse No 6 STRAIGHT ARRON (G435) C Y Ho Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 7 SWORD POINT (G448) Z Purton Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 8 LA CITY BLANCHE (G371) K Teetan After the 350 Metres raced tight to the inside of RUSSIAN EMPEROR and made contact with that runner on a number of occasions.
Horse No 9 NIMBLE NIMBUS (E249) K De Melo C Y Ho (STRAIGHT ARRON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of NIMBLE NIMBUS, resulting in NIMBLE NIMBUS being unnecessarily crowded for room and having to be steadied.
C Y Ho was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 29 November 2023 at Happy Valley.
In addition, Jockey Ho was fined $27,500.
In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 3 and the consequences grade 1 and also considered his excellent race riding record.

Straight Arron ran on nicely to overhaul favourite Sword Point 100m out after a one-off trip from behind midfield for a fourth win from 12 starts. He was able to bounce back with a suitable step up to 2,000m after going only okay in two of three other starts this term. Sword Point found one too smart after rushing to the lead 200m out following a speed-chasing run. He was fitter second-up and relished a return to the 2,000m trip of a win in July. Punted late Money Catcher just held on for third after clearing to the lead 1,750m out from a tricky gate. He rarely produces a bad run but isn't a prolific winner. Late-fancied Nimble Nimbus was unlucky not to have placed when impeded in the dying stages by the winner after a box seat run. It was another good run. Senor Toba made some ground to finish next best from midfield. He's not easy to get right. La City Blanche made headway late from the rear of the field. He didn't enjoy the muddling pace.
