Racing Incident Report
Race Three : (131) - CHEONG WAN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1000Meters
Horse No 1 LUCKY EIGHT (G204) H Bentley Near the 600 Metres brushed the running rail when racing tight to the inside of HUMBLE STAR which shifted in and away from HEROIC MASTER.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 2 EXPLOSIVE WITNESS (B001) L Hewitson Bumped at the start.
When questioned regarding his riding out of the horse, L Hewitson stated that approaching the winning post when he was riding his mount along vigorously, he felt EXPLOSIVE WITNESS commence to lay in and for this reason when he became concerned that he may interfere with HEROIC MASTER which was positioned to his inside, he was obliged to momentarily stop riding and straighten his mount by placing pressure on his left rein to avoid EXPLOSIVE WITNESS shifting in further.
After considering his explanation and the Stewards reviewing the patrol films, they were satisfied that L Hewitson's actions in the circumstances were reasonable in that he had ridden in a manner to ensure the safety to his fellow rider and HEROIC MASTER.
Horse No 3 MAJESTIC KNIGHT (G258) Y L Chung Apprentice Y L Chung explained that after the 100 Metres when he pulled his whip through to his right hand, he observed that it had broken and as a result he was unable to continue to use it on his mount from that point onwards.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 4 HEROIC MASTER (G394) K Teetan Jumped only fairly.
Lay out when obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
Horse No 5 HUMBLE STAR (H125) Z Purton Bumped at the start.
Sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 KA YING POWER (H169) A Badel Slow to begin.

Favourite Majestic Knight tracked the speed outside Super Axiom, assumed the lead 400m out and drew clear for an overdue second Hong Kong success on his 15th local start. He took full advantage of Angus Chung Yik-lai's seven-pound claim after finishing second under Lyle Hewitson four weeks earlier. Punted late, Humble Star got the bob for second over Explosive Witness following his one-out, one-back run. He is itching to break through with placings in his first three races this season. Explosive Witness came from widest out and near last to make it close for second. The old-timer produced another honest effort. Heroic Master chased the leading pair wide without cover from the outside gate and stayed on reasonably well to fill the frame. It was a good effort considering he endured a hard run following his last-start win. Lucky Eight just held his ground after getting a gun run on the fence. The step back in distance backfired. Newcomer Ka Ying Power beat only one after jumping slowly. Super Axiom tamely faded after setting the tempo. He is not racing well and requires a downgrade.
