Recap by phillip woo

Denfield quickened nicely to dash away from his rivals after a patient ride third last from his tricky gate. The win had been coming because he had rattled home for seconds in two of his three previous starts over 1,200m at Happy Valley. Joy Coming ran on well from midfield to grab second despite having to steady off heels passing the 200m marker. He is building towards a victory. Our Class Act closed off strongly along the inside from behind midfield to snare a placing. He has done well to finish in the mix in four runs in a row since joining Tony Millard's stable. Mega Bonus stuck on reasonably well after clearing to the lead 750m out from his wide draw. It was a decent effort with a claimer aboard on his return to 1,200m at Happy Valley. Ridden cold from barrier 12, Travel Golf came from last to finish next best. He is close to a win after making a good impression in three of his past four starts over this C&D. Telecom Spirit ran on from near last without threatening the placegetters. He has found the line better since he dropped in grade. Sight Hero never got out after getting caught up behind tiring gallopers.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (774) - DIANTHUS HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

CAMINO, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 27.6.23 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore).

Before being allowed to race again, CAMINO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

CALL ME MIGHTY jumped awkwardly.

MEGA BONUS shifted in at the start and bumped TELECOM SPIRIT.

TELECOM SPIRIT was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

GOLDEN LUCK jumped awkwardly and raced keenly in the early stages when endeavouring to obtain a position with cover.

When caught wide in the early stages and unable to obtain cover, GOLDEN LUCK was allowed to stride forward by its rider, Z Purton, where it obtained a position outside the lead near the 700 Metres.

Shortly after the start, SIGHT HERO was crowded for room between JOY COMING and RED DESERT which lay in despite the efforts of its rider.

From the outside barrier, TRAVEL GOLF was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

RED DESERT raced keenly in the early stages.

MILLENNIUM FALCON raced wide and without cover from the 700 Metres.

Near the 150 Metres, TRAVEL GOLF was directed to the outside of LIKE THAT to secure clear running.

Approaching the 100 Metres, RED DESERT was disappointed for a run to the inside of MEGA BONUS when that runner shifted in.

As a result, RED DESERT was shifted to the outside of MEGA BONUS to secure clear running.

Inside the 100 Metres, SIGHT HERO was checked when disappointed for clear running between LIKE THAT and GOLDEN LUCK which shifted out whilst giving ground.

As a result, SIGHT HERO could not be ridden out to the finish of the event.

When questioned regarding his riding out of GOLDEN LUCK over the final 150 Metres, Z Purton stated that he was obliged to steady his mount when momentarily crowded by JOY COMING which shifted in and away from DENFIELD.

He said after being provided with clear running approaching the 100 Metres, he was about to recommence riding his mount out, however, received a call from M Dee, the rider of SIGHT HERO, when GOLDEN LUCK commenced to shift out slightly.

He added as a result, and bearing in mind that GOLDEN LUCK was commencing to give ground, he desisted from riding his mount out and near the 50 Metres was awkwardly placed to the outside of RED DESERT when RED DESERT shifted out and as a consequence did not ride his mount out to the finish of the event.

The Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Jockey Purton.

A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, M Dee (SIGHT HERO) reported that his mount was under pressure from the 600 Metres and, in his opinion, whilst unable to be ridden out to the finish of the event, still raced in a disappointing manner.

A veterinary inspection of SIGHT HERO immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer??which had previously been reported.

Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on DENFIELD at the request of Trainer C S Shum.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, DENFIELD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
