Racing Incident Report
Race Ten: (740) - POK FU LAM RESERVOIR ROAD HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1800Meters
SWEET ENCOUNTER jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
COLUMBUS COUNTY jumped only fairly.
THE BEST PEACH and RISE BRETHREN were slow to begin.
In the early stages, BUTTERFIELD raced keenly when being shifted in to obtain cover.
When questioned, K Teetan (THE BEST PEACH) stated that in the early stages he endeavoured to hold a position three wide and with cover behind LOOKING GREAT, however, when his mount was not travelling well enough to do so and was positioned tight to the inside of COLUMBUS COUNTY, he was obliged to allow THE BEST PEACH to settle back in the field behind BUTTERFIELD.
He added that making the Home Turn THE BEST PEACH blundered in the going and on straightening he endeavoured to obtain a narrow run between LOOKING GREAT and COLUMBUS COUNTY, however, when both those runners shifted ground, THE BEST PEACH became held up and did not obtain clear running in the Home Straight.
He further stated that whilst THE BEST PEACH was not afforded clear running in the Home Straight, in his opinion, his mount was not suited by the soft track conditions.
A veterinary inspection of THE BEST PEACH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

TUCHEL, BOURBONAIRE and ALL FOR ST PAUL'S were sent for sampling.
GENERAL:
1.
Trainer P F Yiu was fined $6,000 for working two extra horses on the 1800 Metre grass gallop on raceday morning when restrictions applied to the use of that training facility.
2.
Trainer K L Man was fined $3,000 for working one extra horse on the 1800 Metre grass gallop on raceday morning when restrictions applied to the use of that training facility.
3.
After the running of Race 1, the track classification for the All Weather Track was officially changed from "Wet Slow"to "Wet Fast" This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective.
As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 1 being run on a track rated "Wet Fast"
4.
Prior to the running of Race 5, the track classification for the All Weather Track was officially changed from "Wet Fast"to "Good" As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 5 being run on a track rated "Good"
5.
When horses arrived behind the barriers for Race 8, it was established that there was significant lightning activity in the area with a heavy downpour of rain.
The Stewards elected to return the horses and riders back to the Parade Ring and delayed the running of this race on safety grounds.
Subsequent to further rain, the Stewards then inspected the track and deemed it suitable to continue racing when they were satisfied that the lightning activity had desisted with the starting times amended.

Prior to the running of Race 8, the track classification for the turf course was officially changed from "Good"to "Heavy" As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 8 being run on a track rated "Heavy"

After the running of Race 10, the track classification for the turf course was officially changed from "Heavy"to "Soft" This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective.

Racing Laboratory tests of ANGELS HUNTER, CHARIZARD, HAPPY JAI JAI, REACH GOAL, GALLANT HERO, SUPER HONG KONG, SPLENDID LIVING, GET THE MONIES, GOODLUCK GOODLUCK, CHARMING STEED, SUPER AXIOM, ACE TALENT, SOLAR PARTNER, HIGH PERCENTAGE, PARTY WARRIOR, POWER KOEPP, VICTORY SCHOLARS, SIXTH GENERATION, LOYAL BABY, SWORD POINT, MEANINGFUL STAR and BUTTERFIELD (31.5.23) proved negative.

Bourbonaire put his head in front when it counted after his speed-tracking run from barrier 11 to deny long-time leader All For St Paul's. It was his first win this season. He revelled in the wet conditions. All For St Paul's did not go down without a fight after getting his own way in front from gate nine. The step up to 1,800m nearly worked the oracle. Firming favourite Tuchel kept plugging away to finish a non-threatening third after his one-out, one-back run. It was a good effort carrying top weight striking a wet track over a longer trip than his last-start win. Champion Dragon kept on one-paced after chasing the speed wide without cover to finish next best. It was another honest performance. Nearly Fine ran on well from towards the rear to pick up a minor cheque. It was another pleasing effort away from his Happy Valley comfort zone. Butterfield ran on without menacing from behind midfield. Columbus County made some ground late near the outside after biding his time three from the rear. Rise Brethren made a mild bid after making his run on the fence from behind midfield.
