Racing Incident Report
Race Ten: (548) - TAN SHAN RIVER HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1800Meters
BULLETPROOF jumped awkwardly, shifted out and made contact with LA CITY BLANCHE.
PRECISE EXPRESS jumped awkwardly and then shortly afterwards was bumped by PRINCE ALEX which shifted out.
From the outside barrier, ALACRITY was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
ROMANTIC CHARM raced keenly in the early stages.
Near the 1300 Metres, PRINCE ALEX was eased to avoid ROMANTIC CHARM which shifted in.
Near the 200 Metres, SMILING TIME, which was commencing to finish off well, was steadied and shifted to the outside of ENJOYING to continue into clear running.
SUPERBELLA raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event and subsequently finished tailed out.
The performance of SUPERBELLA was considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, SUPERBELLA will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of LA CITY BLANCHE immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea.
A veterinary inspection of SATIRICAL GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ALACRITY and YOUNG BRILLIANT were sent for sampling.
GENERAL:

Adjourned Inquiry - 26 March 2023 Sha Tin Racemeeting - Race 4 (524) The Stewards today continued an inquiry into the reason for FELIX THE KING falling near the 500 Metres.
On 26 March 2023, evidence was taken from H Bowman (WINWIN THIRTYTHREE), A Badel (BEAUTY NOVA), A Hamelin (ERNEST FEELING) and L Ferraris (HUNKY DORY).
At today's inquiry, further evidence was taken from A Badel, A Hamelin, L Ferraris in addition to M L Yeung, the rider of FELIX THE KING, who was unable to provide evidence on the day due to receiving medical treatment.
The inquiry today established that near the 500 Metres FELIX THE KING was positioned close to ERNEST FEELING at which point M L Yeung commenced to place his mount under pressure when racing directly behind ERNEST FEELING.
A short distance later, Jockey Yeung directed FELIX THE KING out slightly to commence a move to the outside of ERNEST FEELING which at the same point ERNEST FEELING was taken out slightly by BEAUTY NOVA which was taken out by HUNKY DORY.
As a result, the Stewards found that FELIX THE KING struck the near hind heel of ERNEST FEELING which resulted in FELIX THE KING falling and M L Yeung being dislodged.
After considering all the evidence, the Stewards found that the positioning of FELIX THE KING close to the heels of ERNEST FEELING was the major contributor for FELIX THE KING striking heels and falling, however, L Ferraris was advised that in similar circumstances he should exercise more care when shifting ground.

Racing Laboratory tests of HO HO JUNIOR, TO INFINITY, JOLLY HONOUR, RIGHTEOUS ARION, ONE FOR ALL, HARMONY N HOME, KOWLOON EAST STAR, ATOMIC ENERGY, MOMENTUM GALAXY, FLYING SILVER, RIGHT AS RAIN, HAPPY ANGEL, FLYING ON THE TURF, MY INTELLIGENT, VICTORY SCHOLARS, SIXTH GENERATION, PACKING SUCCEEDER, LUCKY EIGHT, MAJESTIC KNIGHT, SAVAQUIN, GORYTUS, EASON and ALLGREEKTOME (22.3.23) proved negative.

Fines Race 2: A Hamelin (HEAVENLY THOUGHT): $5,000 for a breach of Rule 89(2).
Race 3: A Badel (SPIRITED EXPRESS): $10,000 for using the whip forward of the saddle in the Home Straight.

Reprimand Race 2: M Chadwick (HAPPILY FRIENDS) for improving into a run where there was doubtful room passing the 300 Metres.

Warnings Race 4: A Hamelin (REGENCY STAR) for shifting out passing the 800 Metres.

Race 7: S De Sousa (HERO ICON) for shifting in near the 900 Metres.

Race 9: Apprentice Y L Chung (SUPER FORTUNE) for shifting in approaching the 400 Metres and his riding making the Home Turn.
General: L Ferraris (HUNKY DORY) for shifting out passing the 500 Metres.

Favourite Alacrity dashed nicely to win going away 50m out after a patient ride second last from gate 14 for a first win at his third local start. He relished the step up to 1,800m after catching the eye in his first two starts. Young Brilliant kept on nicely at huge odds after hitting the front 350m out prompting the moderate pace of Satirical Glory from a wide draw. It was clearly his best effort from four starts following a move to blinkers. Nicholson Returns came from last to fill a placing. It was another honest effort over the 1,800m. Escape Route came to win the race 200m out but peaked on his run 50m out following a one-out, one-back run. The added 10 pounds following a win took its toll. Bulletproof made some ground after a one-off run from midfield. It was a better run at his third start in Class Three following a 1,400m win. Punted late Smiling Time ran on without menacing travelling second last. The combination of a rise in class and sedate tempo worked against him. Fancied late in betting, La City Blanche made some ground down the outside from behind midfield. He's crying out for a longer trip.
