In a thrilling finish, Packing Victory got up in the final few strides to just deny Sauvestre after a one-off trip better than midfield for a fifth career win from 10 starts. Sauvestre nearly made all leading from a wide draw. He's honest as the day is long. The Golden Scenery finished strongly down the outside to just miss by a head ridden cold at the rear. He's a winner waiting to happen. Well-backed Keefy just missed a placing after working forward to track the leader from gate 14. It was a good effort first-up this term and he clearly has room to head higher. Early favourite The Irishman stayed on reasonably well after a rail run in midfield. It was a good effort first run off a 203-day break. Apache Pass wasn't beaten far in the end after a wide trip in midfield. He's run with merit in both outings this term and will be hard to beat with a return to his preferred AWT surface. Post-time favourtite Galaxy Witness ran on without menacing after a patient ride one from the rear. He appeared to need the run. C P Brave ran on when the race was all but over travelling two from the rear. It wasn't a bad effort over an inadequate trip.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (83) - SWAN HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400Meters

GALAXY WITNESS began only fairly and then was brushed by SPIRITED EXPRESS which shifted out.

C P BRAVE also began only fairly and from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After travelling a short distance, BEAUTY FIT was crowded for room between TIANCHI MONSTER and SILVER EXPRESS which shifted in.

This resulted in TIANCHI MONSTER, BEAUTY FIT and SILVER EXPRESS all becoming unbalanced.

Passing the 1100 Metres, SPIRITED EXPRESS raced tight inside SILVER EXPRESS which shifted in away from the heels of PACKING VICTORY.

Near the 850 Metres, PACKING VICTORY was steadied away from the heels of KEEFY (S De Sousa) which shifted in when not properly clear.

S De Sousa was reprimanded and told to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in future.

After the 1000 Metres, NAVAS TWO was left racing wide and without cover and then in the Straight gave ground.

A veterinary inspection of NAVAS TWO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the 700 Metres, BEAUTY FIT commenced to travel keenly and shifted out away from the heels of APACHE PASS.

After this, BEAUTY FIT travelled wide and without cover.

When BEAUTY FIT shifted out, C P BRAVE improved into tight running inside BEAUTY FIT which resulted in C P BRAVE and TIANCHI MONSTER racing tight.

GALAXY WITNESS, which was racing inside TIANCHI MONSTER, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SPIRITED EXPRESS in consequence.

GALAXY WITNESS then had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

SPIRITED EXPRESS and TIANCHI MONSTER were held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.

Near the 50 Metres, C P BRAVE raced tight outside APACHE PASS which itself was racing tight outside the heels of PACKING VICTORY.

In the Straight, PACKING VICTORY lay out under pressure.

A veterinary inspection of SILVER EXPRESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

GALAXY WITNESS, PACKING VICTORY and SAUVESTRE were sent for sampling.

GENERAL:

1.

After Race 2, V Borges was examined by the Chief Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements.

2.

Acting under Rule 12(43) which provides the Stewards with the power to "investigate, inquire into, and determine any matter or incident arising from a barrier trial or during track work?? the Stewards today inquired into an incident which occurred in batch 4 of the barrier trials conducted at Sha Tin Racecourse on Friday, 7 October 2022.

Interviewed were Jockeys A Badel (JUNEAU FLASH), L Ferraris (TOGEPI), C Wong (ARMOUR EAGLE) and Z Purton (HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE).

After considering the evidence and having regard to the severity of the interference suffered by JUNEAU FLASH during the aforementioned barrier trial, the Stewards determined that C Wong should answer a charge of careless riding in respect of his handling of ARMOUR EAGLE at the relevant stage.

Subsequently C Wong was found guilty of careless riding in that passing the 400 Metres he improved his position inside HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE where there was insufficient room and after doing so failed to make sufficient endeavour to alert riders around him that he had improved between HOWDEEPISYOURLOVE which lay in and TOGEPI.

This resulted in TOGEPI shifting in across the rightful running of JUNEAU FLASH which was severely checked.

After considering all the circumstances to this matter, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for C Wong's licence to ride in races to be suspended for the racemeeting to be conducted at Happy Valley on Wednesday, 19 October 2022.

As such, C Wong is eligible to resume race riding on Thursday, 20 October 2022.

Racing Laboratory tests of SMILING FACE, ALL IS READY, FLASH FAMOUS, LUCKY DIAMOND, TAILOR MADE, PAINTER, SEAWEED FORTUNE, AMAZING BOY, COMPASSION SUPER, HERCULES, EXUBERANT, GALLANT WAKING, HERO STAR, YO BEAUTY, EXCELLENT PEERS, BEAUTY GLORY, WINNING ICEY, STORMTROUPER, NEARLY FINE and COMET SPLENDIDO (28.9.22) proved negative.
