Favourite Science Patch came with a perfectly-timed run after settling midfield to pip newcomer Woodfire Bro for a first win at his ninth start. He had been knocking on the door and can win again. Late-fancied Woodfire Bro did everything right but get the win after hitting the front 250m out following a rails run in midfield. He likely has a decent future ahead of him. Gallant Hero found the gaps when needed three off the fence to finish a close third after a patient ride travelling second last from a wide draw. He's naturally coming to hand. Punted late Good Beauty finished well down the far outside to just miss a placing ridden wide with cover towards the rear from the widest gate. He's racing in good spirits after a win two starts back in Class Five. Royal Agility ran on steadily to earn a minor cheque without menacing the top-four after settling two-to-three deep with cover behind midfield from tricky gate. He does appear from his past three starts to be near a bottom. Double Show ran on without menacing after a settling fifth last from a middle draw. He went a shade better second up but still needs time.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (547) - PEEL HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

ROYAL AGILITY and GALLANT HERO bumped at the start.

HAPPY MATADOR and DOUBLE SHOW bumped on jumping.

Then a short distance after the start, DOUBLE SHOW became unbalanced when bumped by HAPPY MATADOR which shifted out.

After this, DOUBLE SHOW travelled keenly and got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to obtain cover.

From wide barriers, CALL ME LU and TOUCH FAITH were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After initially being ridden along in the early stages from the outside barrier, GOOD BEAUTY was steadied to obtain cover after the 1000 Metres when travelling wide.

Passing the 900 Metres, WOODFIRE BRO raced tight inside GLORIFIED FIRE which was directed in by LUCKY QUALITY which shifted in away from FORTUNE MARBO which, after itself shifting in, was then directed out to relieve the crowding.

LUCKY QUALITY was then steadied away from the heels of FORTUNE MARBO (H T Mo) approaching the 800 Metres as that horse was ridden along to obtain the lead when racing wide.

H T Mo was advised to exercise more care in future.

SERGEANT PEPPER travelled wide and without cover until after the 600 Metres.

HAPPY MATADOR had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and passing the 400 Metres.

K Teetan (SCIENCE PATCH) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 400 Metres he directed his mount out when not clear of DOUBLE SHOW, resulting in that horse being hampered and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

K Teetan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 13 April 2022 and to expire on Sunday, 17 April 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Teetan's good race riding record.

Passing the 250 Metres, HAPPILY FRIENDS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SERGEANT PEPPER.

Passing the 200 Metres, GALLANT HERO was shifted in away from the heels of LUCKY QUALITY which shifted in marginally under pressure.

GALLANT HERO then shifted in away from LUCKY QUALITY and bumped GLORIFIED FIRE which was hampered.

Close to the finishing line, GALLANT HERO was shifted out away from WOODFIRE BRO which lay out under pressure.

A veterinary inspection of GLORIFIED FIRE immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer??which had previously been reported.

A veterinary inspection of HAPPILY FRIENDS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SCIENCE PATCH and WOODFIRE BRO were sent for sampling.
