Racing Incident Report
Race One: (510) - PING HAI STAR HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters
A Hamelin was substituted as the rider of THE GOOD DEAL after its declared rider, M L Yeung, failed to arrive on course by the required time.
M L Yeung was fined the sum of $7,500.
After being loaded into the barriers, SUPER HIGHWAY became fractious, reared and momentarily sat down, resulting in its rider, H Bentley, being dislodged without incident.
SUPER HIGHWAY was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
Before being allowed to race again, SUPER HIGHWAY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
PROSECCO began only fairly and shifted in towards the heels of FORTUNE CARRIER, resulting in PROSECCO losing ground.
AURORA HERO and RATTAN KINGDOM bumped on jumping due to both horses shifting ground.
Then from wide barriers, both RATTAN KINGDOM and AURORA HERO were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
SUPER HORNET began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of THE GOOD DEAL.
Then from the outside barrier, SUPER HORNET was shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover.
Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, FORTUNE CARRIER failed to muster speed.
Then near the 1100 Metres, FORTUNE CARRIER was awkwardly placed outside the heels of ISLAND SURPRISE when being shifted in to obtain cover.
After initially being ridden along in the early stages, ELIGERE was steadied approaching the 1100 Metres when racing wide to obtain cover.
Near the 950 Metres, SUPER HIGHWAY was shifted in away from the heels of FORTUNE CARRIER.
For the majority of the race, CIRCUIT SPLENDOR travelled wide and without cover and making the turn after the 900 Metres got its head on the side and lay out.
Then near the 650 Metres, CIRCUIT SPLENDOR, which was continuing to lay out, was hampered when taken wider by ISLAND SURPRISE which shifted out away from the heels of THE GOOD DEAL.
Approaching the 700 Metres, PROSECCO was awkwardly placed inside the heels of ERIMO.
ERIMO was then shifted out to relieve the tightening to PROSECCO, resulting in FORTUNE CARRIER being inconvenienced.
In the early part of the Straight, ETERNAL BLOOM was awkwardly placed close to the heels of STARRY NIGHT and near the 250 Metres was shifted in away from behind that horse to obtain clear running.
IRON KING was held up for clear running from on straightening until passing the 250 Metres.
IRON KING then got its head on the side and lay out towards the heels of ISLAND SURPRISE approaching the 200 Metres.
IRON KING was then awkwardly placed inside the heels of ISLAND SURPRISE which shifted in marginally.
At the 100 Metres, FORTUNE CARRIER was shifted out away from the heels of ERIMO (J Moreira) as that horse shifted out under pressure.
J Moreira was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
STARRY NIGHT shifted out under pressure in the Straight and passing the 100 Metres inconvenienced ISLAND SURPRISE.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on FORTUNE CARRIER at the request of Trainer C S Shum.
The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.
Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE CARRIER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of ELIGERE and SUPER HIGHWAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ETERNAL BLOOM and ERIMO were sent for sampling.

Eternal Bloom just held off favourite Erimo leading 100m out after making full use of gate one to land a box-seat spot. He lived up to an eye-catching debut effort at the Valley and clearly has promise. Newcomer Erimo couldn't keep a straight line but ran on well after making his run worse than midfield on the fence. It was strong effort. Well-backed late Starry Night found only a couple too good after giving a cheeky sight up front despite being challenge for a good part to his outside by The Good Deal. He was able to build on an even debut effort travelling midfield. Prosecco ran on steadily near the inside to fill the frame travelling midfield on the fence after a tardy break. It was a much better run following a downgrade. Island Surprise gradually faded after a one-out, one-back run. He's itching for a downgrade. Fortune Carrier made some ground late without ever looking a threat after a wide with cover run behind midfield. He rarely produces a bad run at either track. Rattan Kingdom made some ground without threatening from towards the rear. It was a much-improved performance second-up with a move to a hood.
