Recap by phillip woo
Odds-on favourite Glory Vase let down very well to overhaul Pyledriver 60m out after straightening widest out and one from the rear to ring up a second victory in this race from three raids on Hong Kong. He's a quality stayer from Japan. Pyledriver did everything right but found one better after claiming the lead rounding the final bend following a cosy run on the back of the speed. Ebaiyra stayed on a distant third after a prominent run one off the fence. She ran well but wasn't good enough and prefers a softer surface. Columbus County ran on late to fill the frame without menacing the top three after settling third last in the run. He was again the best of the locals this year but isn't good enough on the world stage. Punted late Stay Foolish was stopping 150m out after pressuring Reliable Team for the lead. It was wasn't a bad effort in his first outing outside Japan. Mogul never landed a blow following a rails run in midfield. He's not the same horse after winning this race last year. Butterfield was a handful when failing to settle at the rear for Damian Lane. Reliable Team set slow fractions in front but was never given a breather at any time and was gone at the top of the straight.
