Recap by phillip woo
Kings Shield shook off an early challenge from race favourite Hongkong Great and kept up a strong gallop straightening nearly two lengths on top for a comfortable win. He's very good when right on this surface and appeared to enjoy his off-season break. The Rock came on nicely from towards the rear to finish a clear-cut second with menacing the winner. He was fitter for two starts and has now placed runner-up in both AWT efforts. Telecom Fighters just held his ground after chasing the leaders with cover. He ran well but prefer him at the Valley. Not Usual Talent just overhauled Red Desert in the dying stages for fourth without menacing the top-three after biding his time one from the back. It was an OK effort trying the surface for the first time but he should stick to the turf. Red Desert came up one-paced after finding a one-off spot in third from an awkward gate. He just doesn't run out a strong mile trip. Both Helene Wisdom Star and Wishful Thinker never got into the act from towards the rear in their initial run on this surface. Hongkong Great was gone approaching the straight and eased down after having no option but to track the eventual winner in the run. He may have had an unforeseen issue.
